Led by the renowned aquarium art creator GAKYO MIYAZAWA, Japan’s representative entertainment-type aquarium art team UWS combines the beauty of goldfish from traditional Japanese culture with Okinawa’s unique island culture and modern art to create an immersive aquarium art space of “Goldfish × Art × Japanese Culture × Okinawa” that can only be experienced in Okinawa.

Step into the exhibition hall and feel as if you are entering an otherworldly realm where reality and fantasy intersect. Over 2,000 goldfish across 55 species dart through dazzling lights and shadows. Among them are one of the world’s largest goldfish, the “Jumbo Oranda (ジャンボオランダ),” and the “Ryukin,” which was introduced to the Ryukyu Kingdom from China in ancient times and later spread throughout Japan, showcasing a deep-rooted Japanese goldfish culture.

The venue also features the goldfish museum’s largest extra-large tank measuring over 3 meters, where hundreds of beautiful goldfish swim gracefully in the water. Accompanied by lighting, shadows, and art installations, it resembles a magnificent underwater art performance, delivering a visually stunning feast for the senses.

The Beauty of Goldfish × Japanese Traditional Culture × Okinawan Art

Inspired by Japanese culture and combining Okinawan characteristics with modern art, the exhibition area creates multiple one-of-a-kind art spaces. GAKYO MIYAZAWA teams up with Mirror Bowler, an art team themed around “Cosmos and Japanese Aesthetic,” to weave together light, mirrors, and goldfish into a fantastical aquarium art world.

In addition, there is a collaborative space crafted with unique creativity by glass artist Reiichi Natanome, skillfully combining goldfish, glass, light and shadow, and Japanese aesthetics, with surprises and artistic ingenuity tucked into every corner.

From ancient Japanese goldfish culture to the island charm of Okinawa, and onward to modern artistic creation, tradition and trends are fused into one. More than just appreciating goldfish, it is an immersive experience combining vision, light, shadow, and Japanese culture, creating a dreamlike world exclusive to Okinawa that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
