What to expect
At the "Kujokan" located within the garden of the Tokyo National Museum, you can experience an authentic kumihimo workshop by "Domyo," a long-established kumihimo shop founded in 1652. Domyo is a historic establishment known as the pinnacle of obijime in the world of traditional Japanese attire. Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese craft that gained worldwide attention through the movie "Your Name." (2016), where silk threads are braided together using a tool called a marudai. Under the careful guidance of expert instructors, even beginners can safely create an original strap or bracelet. The normally closed-to-the-public "Kujokan" will be specially opened for this occasion. Please enjoy a special day limited to October 28 and 29, November 17, and December 17 and 18, 2026.
