Minneriya is an optional visit! If selected, you can watch wild elephants roaming freely. Here is a quick fact about them: During the dry season, hundreds gather here to feed on nutrient-rich shoots and socialize in Asia's largest gathering.

Herds are strictly female, led by a wise Matriarch whose 40-year genetic memory guides them to water. To naturally prevent inbreeding, teenage males are gently pushed out around age 12 to form their own "bachelor herds."
