Katsuoji Temple, located in Meiji no Mori Minoh Quasi-National Park in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture, is an ancient Shingon Buddhist temple with over 1,300 years of history. The temple is renowned for prayers seeking "victory luck" and has been revered by samurai, merchants, and common people since the Heian period, continuing to attract numerous visitors today. A distinctive feature within the temple grounds is the abundance of "Daruma dolls" found everywhere, symbolizing perseverance and the fulfillment of wishes, making them a must-photograph sight for travelers.

The ticket includes a blank postcard, which staff usually hand to you at the entrance. 👍 The walk is not tiring at all; it's basically a loop around the mountain back to the visitor center. All the stamp collection points are clearly marked, so you won't have any trouble finding them! 👍👍👍

I stayed near Yodoyabashi and used the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway Extension Line 1-day pass + Katsuoji Temple ticket, which cost me about 358 NTD. That afternoon, I also visited Lalaport at Expo '70 Commemorative Park. Compared to my friend who didn't use the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway Extension Line 1-day pass, I saved approximately 1700-1750 JPY. I highly recommend purchasing it.

The subway one-day pass including the Katsuoji Temple ticket is a great deal. Then, pay an additional ¥1600 for a round-trip bus fare on bus route 30 to Katsuoji Temple. You'll see super cute Daruma dolls all over the mountain, making for excellent photo opportunities!

It's incredibly beautiful inside, with so many Daruma dolls for photos. Stamping your own postcard is really fun; I thought it looked amazing after I finished! It can get crowded on weekends, so I recommend buying tickets in advance to save time waiting in line.

Katsuo-ji Temple has long been revered as a temple of good fortune and victory. With a history of over 1,300 years, powerful figures throughout the ages, including the Minamoto and Ashikaga clans, visited this temple to pray. Even today, people from around the world come to pray for “victory” in various aspects of life such as health, business, exams, sports, and love.

The “Kachi Daruma” dolls lined up on the offering shelves throughout the temple grounds were dedicated by visitors who first made their wishes and later returned them in gratitude after achieving their goals. At Katsuo-ji Temple, the meaning of “victory” has long been understood not as defeating others, but as “overcoming oneself.” By making a wish with a Kachi Daruma, reflecting on oneself, and overcoming one’s weaknesses, one’s wish is believed to come true.
