What to expect
Forest Fairy Terrace Ningle Terrace in Furano is a forest handcraft experience workshop inspired by a character in Japanese writer So Kuramoto’s novel (specifically, a small fairy about 15 cm tall living in the deep forest). The small wooden houses here are individual shops selling unique small commodities, most of which are handmade, such as glass crafts, paper crafts, hand-painted paintings, and handicrafts made of Furano’s lavender dried flowers. Each small shop is small and exquisite, and all the items are only available here and will not be found anywhere else.
Shikisai-no-oka (Four Seasons Color Hill) Shikisai-no-oka boasts a vast and beautiful flower field of 15 hectares, resembling a seven-color rainbow carpet, with different flowers in different seasons. From the end of May to the end of October every year, tulips, lavender, sunflowers and more than 30 kinds of flowers bloom in competition on the undulating hills. From a distance, the colors are bright and colorful, like a painter’s palette. There are also giant scarecrows standing in the flower fields, which are very cute.
Shirahige Falls (White Beard Waterfall) Shirahige Falls is named for the streams of water that pour down from the crevices of the rocks like white beards. The water flowing from the ground hits the rocks, creating waves with a blue glow. Here, you can enjoy the vivid contrast between the green mountains and clear waters in summer and the white snow in winter.
Blue Pond Illumination The Platinum Blue Pond attracts people all year round with its dreamy “blue lake + larch trees” due to the refraction of light by minerals in the water. In winter, the lake water freezes and is covered with snow, making it difficult to see the typical blue lake surface during the day, but the nighttime light show merges the ice, snow, water surface, dead trees and night sky into another dreamy picture, as beautiful as a fairy tale.
The Unique “Lonely” Christmas Tree This “Lonely Christmas Tree” (Yuiriichi no Ki) in Biei Town is one of Hokkaido’s most popular online check-in spots. It is a spruce tree isolated in the field, named for its resemblance to a Christmas tree.
