Battleship Island Cruise Experience (Nagasaki)

Check in at the Hashima Island Digital Museum. Inside, you can learn about Hashima Island through various audio-visual equipment. You can visit before or after your boat trip by presenting your ticket. We do not recommend renting a guided tour device for use on the boat, as it plays pre-recorded introductions based on GPS positioning, and reception is often poor. You can simply watch the introduction at the digital museum beforehand. (There was an additional fee required on-site, but I've forgotten what it was for.)

July 21, 2026. We were very lucky to have good weather, which allowed us to visit the island. We first went to the Battleship Island Digital Museum. You can purchase a Chinese audio guide at the digital museum; the counter will provide headphones, and then a device will be given to you when you board the ship so you can listen to the Chinese explanation. There will also be a guide on the ship, but since we don't understand Japanese, if you have a real-time translation device, you could try using it to listen. There is absolutely no shade on the island, and you cannot use an umbrella, so if you plan to go in the summer, remember to wear a hat and prepare for sun protection.

Experience: I recommend setting aside some time to first visit the Battleship Island Digital Museum to carefully read about the history of Battleship Island. There is a lot of information, which is very helpful for understanding Battleship Island. The weather was nice on the day of boarding, but the waves in the center of the sea were still very big. We finally managed to land on the island. Although we could only visit a small part, it was a truly special travel experience. Thank you to the tour guide for the explanation and the assistant for the help.

Booking tickets on Klook was very convenient. I bought a 1:30 PM boat ticket, and the meeting time was 12:00 PM. We registered first, then had free time to explore the exhibition hall and buy souvenirs. There was plenty of time, and we met at the pier across the way at 1:00 PM. The staff's instructions were very detailed. Unfortunately, the weather was bad, and it started raining when we arrived at Gunkanjima (Battleship Island). The staff thoughtfully provided us with raincoats. Everyone should bring an extra windproof and waterproof jacket, as it gets quite cold out at sea. If the weather is good, a hat and sunglasses are essential. The boat will circle Gunkanjima on the way, allowing everyone to take photos. The entire trip concluded, and we disembarked at the pier at 4:30 PM. Therefore, if you can arrive early to visit the exhibition hall and shop beforehand, you can leave directly after disembarking, without needing to go back to the exhibition hall. If you're driving, there are convenient parking lots near the pier and exhibition hall.

Sad that my boat cruise was cancelled due huge waves on a rainy day. Received email on cancellation at 0830 while we were otw to the museum at 0900. Bought the museum tickets at half price for cancelled visitors and we had a great time slowly going through all the interactive and visual exhibitions. Spent 2.5hrs eventually iso 1hrs+ originally plan with the boat cruise if proceed that day.

it’s okay, booked afternoon your, no need to be early to reception, plus the battleship island you can only see a little on the island, which was slightly disappointed.

A great experience! The weather was perfect that day. The boat ride was about an hour, and we successfully saw and visited Gunkanjima (Battleship Island). There were guides providing explanations and leading the tour along the way!

Successfully landed on the island on May 8, 2026. Visiting the World Heritage site was an unforgettable experience. The staff provided friendly service, and the Battleship Island mascot is adorable. Highly recommend it to everyone.
