Terrible service. Loud noise on ground floor, put us there even though I booked a superior suite three weeks ago indicating I was staying with a young child. The pool is a little more than a bath tub at the back. No room to relax

Mateus had charm for sure and it is in the extremely picturesque Fontainhas neighborhood. Lots of photos to take just strolling around the area. However, there are some downsides about the hotel itself. One is that it is one of the many places in India where they push two twin beds together to make a supposedly queen or king bed. This really did not work well in our room because one of the beds was really broken down and sagging. While the room and the building interior were interesting because of being a converted old mansion, the conversion was not done in a very cohesive way. The staff was a bit inconsistent. Sometimes helpful, but sometimes not helpful. There was also a problem where they doubted that we had already paid when we arrived. Luckily we could retrieve the electronic receipts.

A nice little B&B in a good area with a small bar not far and a quirky area within walking distance of a number of places of interest. The staff are very helpful but need a bit more training as the water ran out one morning and took 15 mins to come back. Another day they let in 10 noisy people at 6am and woke all the residents. They should not have been allowed tk stay in. The manager was very apologetic but the staff need to be trained to manage these scenarios from not recurring. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast freshly made.

The building is a gorgeous heritage hotel located in a great historic area of Panjim. However, the hotel did not live up to its website's promises. When we first arrived, we asked about the "local experiences" listed on their website: "private car rental with driver, walking and bike tours," etc. The man on staff -- who, nevertheless, was very nice! -- didn't seem to know what we were talking about. Later we asked about renting a scooter, and we were told just to go down the street. I also emailed to ask about the best way to get to Old Goa, but no one ever responded. There was no shampoo in our room, and the sheet barely covered the bed. Also, our room refrigerator didn't work, and we couldn't find anyone to help us, so we just gave up on using it. The website also lists daily housekeeping, a mini bar, and daily newspaper delivery, none of which was available. I have never complained about a hotel -- I'm generally easy to please. But I object to the misrepresentation of their services on the hotel's website (http://www.mateusgoa.com). There was only one person there (the manager) who spoke English, but he was rarely there. Fortunately, though, he was around to help us schedule a taxi back to the airport. The breakfast did not look impressive, so we went out for our breakfast for filter coffee and local breakfast food. I should say, though, that everyone was super nice and friendly. But I was unhappy that they misrepresented the services so dramatically.

Great
This hotel is in a fantastic location. The manager, Raj, is delightful. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's a small hotel in an old home that has been beautifully restored. Very quiet. Lovely comfortable rooms. Clean, tidy. Pleasant simple breakfast served. Food can be ordered in at other times.
