Not hot water and pitiful shower. There is a sign in the bathroom saying that the building is over 200 years old and it takes a while for hot water to arrive, but the fact that I ran the bathroom tap for an hour with nothing at all proves this a lie. The shower works by a push button that turns itself off after about two minutes and nothing but a trickle of cold water came out even though I pushed it a dozen times, no pressure. When I complained to the lady on the desk she made it clear that this was normal, and that I was welcome to use the communal showers on the top floor, which is not an ideal solution, I didn't pay hostel rates, but something is better than nothing. On investigating the top floor I found two unisex bathrooms, both were occupied, so I had to go out without a shower. When I returned that night, I again went to investigate the communal showers, only to find they were both occupied again. Eventually at 2am I found them both empty, they turned out to be toilet / electric showers, the one shower was entirely broken, same as in my room, no pressure at all, just a trickle of cold water, the other shower had pressure, but could only deliver scalding water or freezing water and the bracket on the shower riser was broken so it wouldn't stay. Its absolutely unacceptable for a room sold as en-suite to not have proper washing facilities available anywhere, it really ruined my weekend. The view was good, but the hotel had no character and substandard facilities

Great
Staff there was very pleasant and always happy to help. The room was very clean. Found a minor issue and when told they sorted it out straight away

Fantastic
Over 200 year old hotel so it was as expected. No lifts, a lot of charm and character. Our room was very obviously sloped but that just added to the charm. A bit noisy because of the bar downstairs but really did not bother us at all. Would definitely stay there again next time. One suggestion. The desk person should mention that the parking discount can only be used when booked online.

Room had no A/C, it was HOT. They provided 1 mini fan, which was stationary and did not oscillate, and there was 3 of us in the room, so the fan cud only cool 1 person. Then there was 2 flights of stairs that you had to take your luggage up and down the stairs because there's no lift. I can't imagine ever staying there again unless they upgrade with a lift and a/c [for hot temperatures]

Shower leaked into floor as some part was missing from bottom glass screen or was fitted badly, I think been like that a while. Hole in towel. Breakfast first day slow, instant coffee sticks

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. The building and rooms are extremely dated , the carpets dirty, mould on the window ledge in our room, a ladies lash strip in the bedding , a freezing cold shower. We did not get much sleep as it was so noisy with the floor boards creaking loudly , staff chattering in the corridors. The hotel really needs to make changes if it’s going to continue charging anyone to stay there

The good: The room was clean and tidy. The location was central and excellent for a dash to the mall, train station or even a nice evening stroll. The view out my window was of the church gardens with a tidy lawn and lots of beautiful blooms. The not so great: It was smaller than I expected and only had a bed and a lean coat hanger/ bedside stand. There wasn’t room for bedside tables, let alone a desk. TV was wall mounted. Had some trouble operating the shower as the string that turns it on got stuck. The bathroom was pretty snug too. On the whole, the good outweighs the not so good. I’d probably stay here again if they have a more spacious room option.
