FantasticSolo stay
A hidden haven within a UNESCO busy tourist town. Escape the crowds by walking down a quiet street and into a tranquil and elegant hotel where the staff make a special effort for their guests. A daily pleasure to either soak in the hotel's hot spring pools or to complete the roman bath rituals and a guilty pleasure for this is a complimentary benefit to hotel guests (within the hours of 8-10 am and 7-9 pm).
The beds are so-o comfortable that it is tempting to sleep in instead of going exploring. Fortunately most of the tourist sites are a short & flat walk away. This stay was a splurge for me and I would not hesitate to repeat it for another blissful stay at the Gainsborough in Bath.

GreatFor business
Arriving you have to climb 8or so steeps and there was zero help with the luggage. Then you have to drive your car to a parking lot which is 5 minutes by car (as so many one-way streets) and then 5 minutes walk back. Arrived and people at front desk were kind and helpful (other than lack of bellmany but office door open, paper shredder working overtime, and it wasn't the wonderful experience I had hoped on first entry. Rooms well appointed with water and soft drinks (not a single biscuit or crisp -strange) but all in all nice, but not up to top par as it suggests Location perfect but please "fix how we enter our stay as it set the tone in the wrong way" and give me a biscuit for my tea in the morning

FantasticStayed with family · For friends and family
The Gainsborough is a fantastic hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's location is perfect for the Roman Baths, Abbey and all the other sights.
Parking is in a small private car park next to the college so make sure you drop off your luggage at the hotel and speak to concierge who will help you with parking.
Check In was simple and we were greeted by friendly staff. Every member of staff we came across including the cleaners were super friendly.
Our room was spotless and a good size. I booked a deluxe twin and I will miss that bed. It was super comfy and we had a great nights sleep. Due to in room telephone being down, the minibar was complimentary which was great. Soft drinks and water which for us was perfect. The bathroom was clean and tidy.
There are plenty of facilities on site which unfortunately I didn't have time to make use of so that's my reason for planning another stay at this wonderful hotel in the not too distant future. I'd highly recommend anyone thinking of visiting bath to stay at this hotel, you won't be disappointed.

Good We particularly enjoyed the thermal baths and sauna facilities. However, access was limited to a few morning and evening hours unless guests paid an additional £70 per person, which was disappointing for a hotel of this category and price point.
The restaurant and bar areas felt rather uninviting and never encouraged us to dine or spend time there. More significantly, we found the staff to be noticeably unfriendly and unwelcoming throughout our stay. This stood in stark contrast to the warm and gracious hospitality we experienced elsewhere during our two-week visit to the UK.
The beds were comfortable, although the Executive Room we initially received had a surprisingly small bed for an upgraded category, and we requested a room change. Some amenities also appeared quite worn, including bathrobes with large tears.
Guests should be aware that some rooms have accessible bathrooms. While these may be suitable for guests requiring those features, we found the layout uncomfortable and it was impossible to use the shower without soaking much of the bathroom floor.
Overall, while the property has attractive facilities, the lack of welcoming service and several disappointing details made it difficult to feel that the experience justified the premium price.

Probably the best place to stay in Bath. A central location and a full-service hotel with a staff that strives to make your stay memorable. I’m not a spa person BUT…guests can use the spa in the morning and evening so that’s a tremendous perk !

GreatStayed with partner
My wife and I recently stayed at the Gainsborough that was a lovely experience. However, when my wife booked a Spa treatment the hotel refused to honour the guest 20% discount as we had book our stay through Expedia.
Very disappointing to feel although a hotel guest we were treated differently !!

we had booked a townhouse Suite for 5 adults consisting of 3 bedrooms. I had personally called up reservations to confirm availability and thereafter booked through Expedia within 5 minutes of my call. Full amount was paid at time of booking.
we were however down graded to two individual rooms citing technical error in booking and amount adjusted .
very unprofessional.
