Great

Stayed with family

The room was spacious, but under furnished, could have done with another chair. Kept running out of toilet paper, and AC kept running strange preprogrammed modes that made us too cold at night. The outside waterfall was also a little loud. The breakfast were not great. The staff were helpful, and the same day turn around for laundry was great!

Below average
Pros: 1. Walking distance from main road and bus stand/ taxi. 2. Walking distance (if don't mind walking for 20-30 mins) from tourist areas. 3. Peaceful surroundings. Cons: 1. Worst aircondition in the room; too small, hence, no cooling. 2. No vegetarian food for breakfast. Too little choices anyway for non-veg food. 3. Staff don't understand English. 4. No kettle or tea/coffee in the room. 5. Super cheap toiletries. 6. Too noisy at night as guests would sit and chat outside. Water fountain in the central courtyard make it worse during night when you wan just sleep. 7. White towels turned grey!

Great
This is a great budget hotel, I will definitely stay at Sagan Huis again. I was a little concerned as a few of the reviews said rooms could be noisy on the ground floor and I was in a room right in the middle of the ground floor. I slept very well Friday and Saturday though, there was no noise. I had an inside window to the walkway and still no noise and I was able to sleep in because it didn't get too bright. The staff were very helpful. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean and have lots of cupboard space. Wifi was ok but not good enough to upload photos. The cafe is cute and there are tables out front of the hotel, it's on a nice street. The included breakfast was terrible, it didn't look good and the few things I tried were not very nice. There are a number of cafes and restaurants within a few minutes walk though. It is around the corner from Galaria mall and there are nearly always becak and taxi on the main road. It was also easy for my friends all over Yogya to find where I was, they all knew the area. The only downside was I didn't see any women working there. Althe young men there were very nice and I felt totally safe but an Islamic woman traveling alone may not feel comfortable staying there.
