GoodStayed with partner
I had never stayed in a guest house before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I booked Residence Stendhal Guest House mainly because of its convenient location near the port in Civitavecchia, and for that purpose, it worked well. I was able to walk to the shuttle station to get to the cruise, which was very helpful.
The room was clean, but very basic. The air conditioner seemed too small for the size of the room, and unfortunately, the bed was very uncomfortable. The towels looked like they were once white, and I had to ask for an extra one. The chair in the room was usable, but the upholstery was broken, so the room could definitely use some upgrades. Also, the stairs were very dark, which made the property feel less comfortable.
On the positive side, the location is very valuable if you are staying one night before a cruise.
They also offer breakfast, and the gentleman helping with everything, including breakfast, was very friendly and attentive.
Overall, for one night before a cruise, it is okay because of the location, but the room comfort and general condition could be improved.

Below averageStayed with friends
I don't know where to start. I have not seen the host smiling once. I asked him if he can arrange a taxi for us he refused. Not that helpful at all.
The bathroom was clean. But I am not sure about the room. The floor is too old that I could not tell if it is clean or dirty.
The closet has exactly 3 hangers. Good luck if you have more cloth to hang. No safe case. So you will have to carry your valuable all time. The breakfast is basically some snacks. There is no cup in the room. No large cups in the kitchen for hot drinks.
And the worst part is that you will have to carry your luggage about 30 steps to the room, so good luck if you have mobility issues or any back issue.
The good part is the location. That I give it a good point...

The staff is very rude. He barely look at you. He does not care about the guests at all, even less trying to be helpful.
The towels were starting to rip, bed sheets were very old. The power of the building went out during the night and an alarm was blaring for good 30 minutes. Once power came back on, there were no TV channels available.
The place is well located but it is a floor in a very old building with a very unfriendly staff. The breakfast is a joke with only bananas, danish and a Coffee machine
I would never come back to this hotel and I definitely would not recommend it to anyone!

GoodStayed with friends
Only stayed one night because we were leaving on a cruise the next day. No elevator and up 2 flights of stairs with luggage to “reception” which was just a guy at a desk. It appears to be an apartment building where they just converted one floor into some hotel rooms. There’s not even a sign to tell you you’re at the right place or where the entrance is. We had to walk around the building twice and take a chance on how to get in. It was convenient to get to the cruise port and it was good enough for that purpose. But I wouldn’t stay there for any other reason.

The location was great. Finding the property and how to get in was a challenge. We had to ring the person inside. Also, there were many steps up to the property and we had to carry all our luggage which was another challenge. The room was huge and clean. Breakfast was just okay.

Air conditioner was quiet, very clean room. We were there a very short time.
Breakfast had some nice pastries, no hot food. Fruit and yogurt also.
Walk to cruise ship area. Relaxing.

Great stopover for outbound or inbound cruisers. Spotlessly clean rooms. Bathroom are modern. This is more a B&B to sleep, grab a quick coffee in the morning and take in the city. Check on was efficient, but it does have restricted times. It is right by the cruise port. 20 min walk. But also some great restaurants, bistro and waterfront cafes to enjoy. Very safe! One special note. You get a key card and 2 keys for your unit. Follow the instructions to understand how to use them. Also a few flights of stairs to come up to the main level. So if you have a large suitcase, be prepared to tag team it up. Well done " Stendhal!!"

Great Great location. 10 minute walk from the train and 12 minute walk for the cruise shuttle.
Room was really nice. The only complaint was the wifi was not great.
