Gangnam Tour on Youth and Society in South Korea

June emailed me the day before the tour to confirm the date/timing, the walking tour started around gangnam station to sinsa and troll through garousil street then to han river nearby apujeong station. If you like to find out more about the local social issues about gangnam from the miracle development to education to housing to lookism (plastic surgery) from a local korean guide’s perspective, this is the tour to sign up for. The tour ends with June’s optional lunch recommendation at a local restaurant in apujeong area with additional cost.

I highly recommend booking this tour with the guides of "seouldude". June and Jessica were both there to meet us and split us up into 2 groups since we were so many people. So this is a popular tour! We did our tour with Jessica and she did an amazing job guiding us through Gangnam. We learned lots of interesting facts about the struggles of korean youth, the importance of eduaction, money and beauty - all represented in this district. There was always time for questions and the pace and structure of the tour were just right. In the end there was an optional lunch with several dishes to try (vegetarian and vegan food available). Jessica also helped us to get to our next destination. This was a great experience!

The meet up place was easy to find. The energy of our guide Jessica was infectious. It was fun and very informative.

Our tour guide, Jessica, is a Korean who returned from overseas, so her English is fluent and authentic. Along the way, she shared many insights into the realities of South Korea. You could tell she put a lot of effort into preparing the content. In just two or three hours, she introduced us to the high housing prices in the Gangnam area, the cram school culture, the prevalence of plastic surgery, the low birth rate, and the current state of matchmaking services. Her presentation wasn't just based on personal impressions; she used data and evidence to powerfully share the current situation in Korea. Finally, she shared her personal reasons for staying in Korea. Jessica was very meticulous and patient, thoughtfully answering everyone's questions and ensuring our safety on the streets. She provided headsets for everyone throughout the tour, so we could all clearly hear her explanations. I realized that Korea and Taiwan face many similar challenges, and I was so happy to have such a professional and dedicated guide on my first day in Seoul. What stood out to me was that even on the subway, she explained that the broadcast we just heard was a plastic surgery advertisement, tying it back to the day's theme. I highly recommend this tour!

what a fascinating tour with the very talented Jun. it was filled with gems of information from start to end. Jun is very knowledgeable and interesting and even though I thought I knew a lot about Korea and Seoul, I learned so much more during the experience. 10/10

This tour share with us the dark side of modern youth lives. I think it is important to see as tourists the dark side of a society to have a deeper inderstanding of the culture. Many things are explained by diving deeper in lives of youth in modern South Korea. The guide was great to show us all the social issues that exists today and why sometimes it is so hard for young generation to keep going the same way as their parents. Very informative and interesting.
