JR Okayama-Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass

I was skeptical at first before purchasing this JR pass but it is totally worth it! Its unlimited JR line including any Shinkansen from Okayama to Hakata. Highly recommended if you are staying in Okayama or Hiroshima.

It’s very affordable. It only takes one hour to take the Shinkansen from Hakata to Hiroshima, and the Shinkansen departs every ten minutes. One or two people can sit in the unreserved seats without having to reserve a seat. If there are many people, you can go to the counter to reserve a seat first. Please note that you have to go to JR-West to change. However, you cannot change to KLOOK QR at the JR-West counter in Hakata station. You have to use the machine on the side to scan the QR code and passport. My brother who was in line on the left took his QR code to me and went to the machine. Because the counter does not have a QR code reader. In terms of value, a round trip to Hakata and Hiroshima is worth the price. It is also worth visiting Okayama, Fukuyama, Onomichi, etc. You can also take a JR Miyajima-operated ship.

On the first day, I received the PASS at Okayama Station and immediately reserved a seat on the Shinkansen to Hiroshima with extra-large baggage space. I arrived in Hiroshima very quickly. On the second day, I traveled to and from Hakata and got to try the square Ichiran Ramen. On the third day, I took a ferry to Miyajima. On the third and fourth days, I used the PASS to ride the Hiroshima sightseeing bus, enjoying various tourist attractions in Hiroshima. On the fourth day, I took a reserved seat on the Shinkansen back to Okayama. On the fifth day, I went to Kurashiki. This pass saved me a lot of transportation costs, so I highly recommend purchasing it 👍

It is very convenient to use the qr code to exchange tickets now, but on the first day of use, there was a big delay on the Shinkansen, and then the station staff at Okayama Station didn’t know that there was a machine to exchange for. When we asked about the machine with the passport logo, he said no We were asked to line up at the artificial window. Fortunately, I turned around and saw that there was an exchange machine behind him. I felt that the staff of JR needed to be educated. Although Okayama is not a big city, at least it is not a small station without people.

I literally only used this for one day as I wanted to travel from Fukuoka to Hiroshima and it was just slightly cheaper to get the JR pass than to buy a return ticket (Japan train fares are wild). Once I found the correct ticketing booths at Hakata Station (for JR West) it was easy to get the pass. If I was in Fukuoka/Japan for longer than 2 day it would have made a huge huge saving!!

I used jrpass every time I went to Japan. I picked up the physical ticket at the machine at Okayama Station. Within five days, I visited Hiroshima Stadium, Miyajima, Onokushima, Onomichi, and went to Fukuoka to watch baseball and climb Mt. Sarakura. This ticket can only take the Shinkansen to Kokura and Hakata, but not the conventional line. Each ticket has its scope of use. I took the Shinkansen every day these days. It is a very good value for money ticket.

Purchase this JR pass in advance on klook and redeem it directly with the QR code at the JR WEST counter in Hakata Station.
