This checkpoint serves as the final security screening station for civilians and tourists entering the Civilian Control Line (CCL) zone, which leads to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
Discovered in 1978, it was dug by North Korea to infiltrate the South. It is 1.7km tunnel, 73m underground. One of 4 known tunnels dug by North Korea beneath the DMZ. Walk through and feel the tense reality of Korea’s division.
The observatory is located just about 1.5 km from the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), and it is the northernmost observatory in the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ).
It offers view into North Korea, including glimpses of the North Korean village.

****This review is for a different tour since our original tour guide came down with an illness and was unable to give the tour.*** PLK TRAVEL booked us on a different tour - DMZ Tour from Seoul. We had Happy Sam as our tour guide. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. He was also super friendly and very cheerful throughout the whole trip. Wpuld definitely recommend this experience and Happy Sam to anyone that is interested in going to the DMZ.
