AN AUTHENTIC ETHICALLY RUN ELEPHANT SANCTUARY
Our awe-inspiring elephant sanctuary is nestled in the foothills of southern Phuket and it’s where our herd calls home, who are all rescued from riding camps and the tourism industry.
Freedom Elephant Reserve Phuket is located in Chalong, Phuket. It is nestled in a valley with its private river flowing down from the surrounding mountains, with crisp, clean water with monuments and ancient walls that appear to be from a time long since lost.
Our dream is to provide retired working elephants with love and care, with limited human interaction on an observation-only basis
Our guests will be able to observe the natural behavior of our rescued elephants as they walk alongside the herd through the reserve.

Reviews
A new but ethical home for these aged elephants. The owner-manager has extensive knowledge and his heart on the right place, prioritizing animal welfare more than profit. It was a joy to witness the elephants frolicking carefree in their habitat. The majestic giants, follow their mahouts prodding with nary a stick or a whip on hand.. just gentle coaxing, their trust in them apparent on the get-go. A refreshing sight to behold, we wish them (owner and mahouts alike) immense blessings for them to continue running this sanctuary for animals. For future visitors, if you could spare some extra baht, please donate to their cause. 🙏
I visited Freedom Elephant Reserve which is a newly opened Elephant sanctuary having 3 rescued Elephants. We took part in Feed program and were the only ones there at that time slot, hence it was a lovely private experience. The elephants are well taken off and Matthew is a lovely guy to talk to, who loves doing this noble thing.
A very pleasant place. There are only 3 elephants here, and only feeding is allowed, as bathing is not beneficial for either the elephants or the people. My daughter and I went in the morning and were the only ones there. We went to get the elephants from the jungle and saw them in their natural habitat. A buffalo was splashing in a pond nearby – beautiful! Then, we led the elephants to the enclosures where we fed them bananas and sugarcane. We have been to 3 reserves before, and this one was our favorite due to its ethical treatment of the elephants. Afterward, the elephants went back into the jungle to feed.
Very worth the experience. We looked so hard for an ethical place to see elephants and we surely found one. Our guide Kim was amazing and will definitely come back next time we are in Phuket!!
10/10 recommend. The elephants are free range so its ethical. Please do support them as they are in their initial stages since opening 4 months ago but their attention is magnificent and you get a more intimate experience (unlike that of commercial tours) with the 3 elephants. They are planning to rescue an additional elephant. This tour is worth every second :)
Newly opened this year. They allow the elephants to roam freely within the park.
