I loved the experience I had with Damitrans. The staff in Hanoi were helpful and guided me to my cabin. I room and bed was spacious enough for me. They also offered free water and snacks. There is a charging port in each bed. I prefer travelling by train than bus as you have access to the toilet whenever you needed. We arrived in Sapa at around 6:00am. seat reservation process: confirmation was faster than Chapa Express redemption guide: efficient pass area coverage: scenic views
Taking the night train to Lao Cai is a total vibe, but here’s the real talk: it’s best booked as a "sleeper" experience to save time, just don’t expect a perfect night's rest. While the train starts off smooth, it tends to pick up speed and get a bit jolty later on, which can definitely wake you up if you’re a light sleeper. That said, the setup is surprisingly cozy! The beddings are solid, and they give you these clean, weighted comforters that feel high-quality. They also hook you up with snacks like bananas, chips, and water to keep you going. If you have the choice, grab the lower bed. It’s much easier to manage your gear and get in and out. For a first-timer, it honestly feels like stepping into a scene from Harry Potter. There’s something very Hogwarts Express about the wood paneling and cozy cabins.

The sleeper train was such a fun experience. The engine is quite loud so this may be an issue for light sleepers and portions of the ride are also a bit bumpy so this may be an issue with those who have road sickness but otherwise the facilities on board like the Beda and bathrooms were nice, clean and comfortable. Also, the views throughput the ride were really nice and this provides a unique experience.
train was on time and clean, very pleasant experience to travel from Sapa back to Hanoi even though it took longer than the bus. was able to sleep well onboard and they sold snacks/drinks onboard as well. there was a staff who walked us from the train station gate to our train room, but she did not give us our hardcopy ticket (even tho we requested for it) that had the train room and bed numbers so there was a bit of confusion with the train officer when she requested for our ticket as we only had the klook voucher that didn’t indicate our train room number. but it was resolved in the end. overall pleasant experience, would recommend
The train is on time. Railway staff was very helpful with us. It was a great experience as we were all first timer to take sleeper train.
facilities quite old, the upper deck have wood patches, but overall okay for just short trip to Lao Cai station. just take note some train station staff quite fierce and impatient at times.
We arrived 2 hours earlier than scheduled time. The station master was kind to offer a room for luggage storage while we move around the town exploring. The restaurant opposite the train station was convenient where we can hear the announcement made by train station on our schedule train for boarding. Boarding was easy and led by the train master. Staffs were helpful to lead you the cabin and we got settled in real quick. There were Lays chips, mineral water bottles, wet tissues in our cabin. Cabins were clean and cold. There’s pillow and blanket. Luggages can be stowed under the beds. Cabin was comfortable and roomy for the 4 of us. We are a family with 2 kids. Charging ports are available in the cabin. Hot and cold water dispenser are available near toilet area. And the highlight was we pass by the Hanoi train street where the onlookers watch us pass by. Overall it was a great, enjoyable and exciting experience !
You have to exchange the voucher for tickets at the 2nd floor of Hanoi Train Station. Staff were friendly and guided me to the train. Unfortunately, the lower and upper decks are assigned randomly. Better to come early to get the lower deck as the upper deck is very near the A/C vent and its gets really cold. Beddings were clean and toilets were clean as well. Sleeping deck itself was quite cramped as I’m 6’2”. The ride was quite smooth and you don’t really hear the train engine.
We booked a sleeper train for six people, and Damitrans Express provided us with two cabins—one for four passengers and another for two. The experience was outstanding, as we were able to rest comfortably during the journey. I’d also like to commend the staff of Damitrans Express and the Rail Station for their honesty and excellent service. I accidentally left my phone in the cabin, and they promptly returned it to me.
