What to expect

Japan has the most charming scattered little islands that capture that perfect countryside allure travelers are always on the lookout for. You can experience all of this when you head down to the Nagasaki Prefecture, home of the famous "99 islands" as seen on the opening credits of the popular Tom Cruise film "The Last Samurai." In all honesty, the Japanese must have put a number (Kujukushima is literally 99 in Japanese) on it for formality because they remain countless even to this day. While landing on the islands is not exactly feasible itself, you can cruise along the crystal clear waters of Sasebo on a 50-minute ride on the Pearl Queen (a white, multi-deck ferry) or Pirate Boat Mirai (the first electric-powered eco-boat) that can bring you closer to the islands.

Review for: Pearl Queen Cruising Ticket

One of the highlights of our cruise. If you are on a Cruise yourself "do not do it through the ship ". Book the first sailing (10.00) and catch a local bus (30 mins)or taxi (10 mins). We had about 50-100 people on this sailing and you were able to move around , pick a seat, take photos from different positions..Terrific. On our return the queue for the ship with the organised tour was horrendous. we watched them keep loading people on and on. Must have bern over 200-300 people.Which ever position they got on the ship, that was it. Packed in like sardines. It must have been horrendous.

The boat is very stable and has three floors. The lower two floors are indoors and have sofas where you can enjoy the scenery through the glass windows. The third floor is plywood, and the upper half floor is similar to an observation deck. The wind was so strong that it made everyone feel stupid, but the boat was as steady as a mountain and did not rock at all. The wind was so strong that my face was crooked when I got off the boat, so remember to wear a mask. But the scenery is worth it, really beautiful. There are multi-language broadcasts introducing the Kujuku Islands along the way, and the captain even demonstrates a 180-degree drift in the narrow bay to show off his excellent boating skills. The water is so clear that you can see jellyfish. The whole journey takes about 50 minutes. Coinciding with the winter oyster roasting festival, 400 barbecue grills are provided on the lawn for visitors to roast oysters on site. The oysters are very fresh, some are bigger than the palm of your hand, and 1,000 yen for 1kg is a good deal. There are also other seafood and snacks. When the weather is nice, it’s a great experience to eat grilled oysters under the sun and the sea breeze!

Kujukushima 99 islands cruise is a nice inclusion for our Kyushu trip. During the cruise we get to see marvellous landscape and scenery. The weather was fabulous on the day of our visit and the process to exchange the cruise tickets was easy and fuzz free.

Take the Midori Limited Express from Hakata to the terminal Sasebo Station, then cross the road to bus stop No. 6 and get off at Kujukushima Aquarium (terminal). It is very simple (IC cards are accepted for the bus). But please note that the bus there only leaves once an hour, and there is no boat at 12 noon, so I had a hamburger for lunch as soon as I arrived at Sasebo Station, and then took the bus and took the boat at 1pm. Kujukushima is a place worth visiting, but the weather must be good, so you don’t have to make a reservation first. You can also arrange your itinerary according to the weather, because there are not many tourists on weekdays, but if you want to take the red Mirai, you must go on holiday Only then. There is a Chinese radio introduction on the ship, which is very considerate.

Counter staff redeemed the voucher very quickly. Tickets over the counter are now JPY 1800 so it's a better deal with klook!

Purchasing on klook is 1,800 yen cheaper than onsite. You can redeem the ticket by showing the QR code at the ticket office after arriving. The location to get on the boat is easy to find. There is a trail next to the aquarium and it is only a 1-minute walk away. The scenery of Kujukushima is beautiful. We made a reservation for 10:00. We started boarding the boat about 10 minutes ago, and then sailed on time. We just arrived back at the dock 50 minutes later. In addition, in addition to Japanese broadcasts on board, there will also be Chinese broadcasts.

It was raining lightly that day, so the photos were gloomy, but the actual scenery is very beautiful. The trip takes about 45 minutes and I think the CP value is very high. The Chinese tour guide on the boat is very considerate. Although it was raining lightly and the wind was very strong that day, we still stayed on the deck to take photos and videos. Even though my hands were frozen, I was still very happy... I will take another red pirate ship next time I go!

Review for: Pearl Queen Cruising Ticket

It costs 1,800 yen to buy a ticket on site, 88 Hong Kong dollars on KLook, and you can redeem the ticket with the QR code, which is very convenient. We took the first 10 o'clock boat that day and there were not many people there. When we got off the boat, there were already a lot of people queuing up on the second boat. The captain had excellent driving skills and even performed a U-turn on a narrow road at sea. The weather was very good and the scenery along the way was beautiful.
