Wagah Beating Retreat Border Ceremony (with Dinner) in Amritsar
- Behold a ceremonial event that calls back to the border's great role in India’s struggle for freedom
- Visit the Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara and learn about the Battle of Saragarhi
- Experience the beating retreat at Wagah Border, famous for the ceremonial closing of gates
- Have dinnner at a local restaurant to sample some local cuisine
What to expect
Although it happens daily, the Wagah Beating Retreat Border ceremony remains moving as a testament of history, culture, and international relations between India and Pakistan. Head out to the Wagah Border with your English speaking guide and watch as you head to the Grand Trunk Road, the only link between India and Pakistan in 1999. In the ceremony, you will watch the soldiers of two nations put on a show of sorts, with the lowering of both flags and a handshake between two nations. Hear about its origins and why it continues to be done to this day before heading off to Amritsar, visiting a local restaurant, and sampling some delicious local cuisine. It’s a great cultural experience you shouldn’t miss in Amritsar.

Reviews
I enjoyed a lot, the driver dropped upto last point of border, hence we reached without walking more. He was very cooperative during our to and from journey.
Driver is very cooperative and helpful, he guided us efficiently.
Nice event showing the exchange. Full of people and cheers.
Was a good experience butttt.... The driver arrived at 12:20pm to my utter shock, the hotel clerk phoned and I immediately came downstairs. Had to explain to him (the driver) that the itinerary said 3pm and that we’re not going until 3pm. I guess he accepted it and came back 2.5 hours later. Got a email from the company organising the tour (after he left) that we needed to bring our passports to the ceremony. This delay in communication (or lack of!!) really annoyed me. Good thing I looked up the border closing ceremony beforehand so I knew to bring my passport!! Did not go to the Gurduwara temple (I don’t think the driver knew he was suppose to take us there also) and also THERE WAS NO ENGLISH SPEAKING TOUR GUIDE. The only English that was spoken was between me and my friends.
Overall a great experience. However my expectations were higher because it listed a English guide. However, it was only a driver and no guide. very limited English and no information provided. I would recommend but would have realistic expectations of no guide only a driver. Still a very good value.
it is one of the best experiences in Amritsar. a must visit for sure. tho is it a bit confusing when the driver arrived but it is all in all good.
Overall it was a good trip. Driver was nice just that we didnt get an english speaking driver. But he brought a friend along to help. Didn't really follow the itinerary, from hotel straight to the border and dinner was nearby the border but we decided to skip it. Tips for the trip: -Bring your passport for VIP lane and foreigner special seating (just show your passport to all the guard) Gate opens after 4. Just wait for the que to start moving, then only you go to the vip lane. Before that, just wait in the car or at the carpark area. -Bring your umbrella and portable fan because its gonna be hot and sunny. - water for hydration. Gonna be a long wait. Go in early to get seats, but u have to wait about 2 hours inside. They will have people selling drink. Each drink 50 rupees. Keep some small cash for it. - do not bring powerbank. They will have a bag check before entering.
Booked this Wagah Border package through Klook and had a great experience. Special thanks to Parmjit Singh for being a friendly, professional, and punctual guide throughout the trip. The pickup was on time, transportation was comfortable, and the itinerary was well organized. The Wagah Border ceremony was a unique and memorable experience with fast lane. Dinner arrangements at the suggested restaurant were good, and Parmjit ensured everyone was taken care of from pickup until drop-off. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Amritsar and looking for a hassle-free Wagah Border tour. Thank you, Parmjit Singh!
