Traditional Yuzen Dyeing Experience in Kyoto

This experience was amazing! Our instructor is a master in his field and his guidance was excellent as we were dyeing his artwork. Our translator was also extremely personable and she assisted us greatly as we are not fluent in Japanese. If you are in Japan in December, he also has Christmas and Santa designs available for dyeing which was a pleasant surprise! This is a truly cultural experience that anyone can do and have a great time. I will cherish the art we created and will have it hanging on my walls forever. I highly recommend this experience if you are in the Kyoto area!

We truly enjoyed the whole experience. the artist was very generous in sharing of stories and history. He was very kind and patient. the translator was also knowledgeable and all four of our family liked what we created. You are truly welcomed into his home and workshop.

I really enjoyed the class, it was a lot of fun getting to paint my chosen design, which was a really neat one. I'm very happy with how it turned out, and would definitely consider doing the experience again if I returned to kyoto. The teacher gave nice tips on color choices but I also got to make my own choices as well. The interpreter was very helpful in translating to english and explaining what was said. The instructor's explanations and guidance were thorough, and they were very kind. The young woman responsible for the Chinese translation was also very dedicated and translated exceptionally well. Overall, it was a great experience, but the price is a bit high.

This was such a fun experience! My husband was a little trepidacious about the experience as he doesn't feel he's artistic. But he did a great job and felt really happy with the whole event. I enjoyed it a great deal as well. Such a unique activity, and the master is a great artist. He was able to mix paints to find the shades we wanted, and would make suggestions as to colors he thought would (and would not) look good with our project. Yuzen dyeing is a beautiful tradition. Expensive, but one our favorite memories so we feel it was worth it.

There was a interpreter present to help communicate. The host was really lovely and helped out with the colors. He showed me the kimono's he made and there was a nice and calm atmosphere.

This experience was really amazing. I’m so glad I went. Learning about the history of the technique of silk dyeing and seeing first hand the master create the colour inks you choose to use was incredible.

Very cozy and fun! Mr. Shin showed us around and was very sweet and inquisitive. We arrived early but he was happy to keep us entertained while we waited for the interpreter, Ha, who was also very helpful and sweet. Our artworks came out beautiful, thanks to the guidance of both Mr. Shin and Ms. Ha.

We had a great experience, it was the Highlight of our trip! they were so kind to let us finish our dye even though it was past the time!

This was such a lovely experience! The guide was very gentle and patient with me, and he had a translator with him who helped translate everything for me. Both of them were incredibly kind, welcoming, and made me feel very comfortable. I was the only person there at the time, so I ended up having a private workshop experience, which made it even more special. Silk dyeing is such a therapeutic and relaxing activity, and at the end, you’re left with a unique handmade souvenir to take home. I would highly recommend this experience!
