- Explore Asakusa - heartland of Tokyo and forerunner of Japan's modernization
What to expect
What if a half-day walk in Asakusa could explain pretty much everything about Japanese history, beliefs, and its global connection? This tour goes far beyond sightseeing. At every landmark, your expert guide explains not only what you’re seeing, but why it matters—using each site as a gateway to Japan’s history, beliefs, and global connections. By the end of the walk, you’ll have a clear, big-picture understanding of how Japan evolved from a closed feudal society into the country you see today. Here is just one example: at the Tokyo Cruise Asakusa Pier.
- Why did Japan close itself?
- Why did Japan choose the Netherlands as its only trading partner when it isolated itself?
- What impact did Japan’s 19th-century art have on the world, especially the French Impressionist painters?

Reviews
Amazing tour with most amazing and full of knowledge guide, Sachiko. Her knowledge and way of presenting add so much to this already amazing tour. Fluent English has made it easy for us to catch up. Overall this is a must do tour because you learn so much about the culture and history of Japan.
The detail of the explanation is great. The recommendations for local foods are phenomenal. The guide is simply fantastic. I highly recommend it.
We had a great time with our tour guide and tour friends. Sachi was amazing, kind, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed tasting the local sweets and getting our fortunes at Senso-ji!!
Excellent tour! My guide, Taka, was very friendly and explained everything in detail about Asakusa.
The tour guide was very kind, and there was no problem communicating in English. The historical explanation was also quite sufficient. The New Year atmosphere was very good, and it was a very good experience.
Yoko gave a great tour, very informative giving details on Japanese history as well a explaining local customs
Our tour guide Jun Chan was very sweet , energetic and walked us through important spots , told us all the history behind each place . She also introduced us to new snacks/sweets which we wouldn’t have tried otherwise . I would recommend her definitely . Though one point to add is we felt the price is higher for the tour compared to the spots taken .
We spent a very pleasant and informative afternoon in the Asakusa area with our guide Sachi. She provided us with just the right amount of historical background and folklore, all in a conversational manner. We toured area of the Senso-ji complex that we probably would not have seen on our own. We drew our fortune (on a small piece of paper) at the omikuji counter and received good results! We ended our tour with an excellent cup of matcha tea. An enriching experience. Thank you Sachi!
Sachi was an amazing guide! Her detailed knowledge of the area really showed. She was so helpful and happy the entire time! It rained lightly, but she made sure we were all dry and gave us Japanese snacks while we waited for the rain to stop. The snacks were also absolutely delicious! We had previously gone through Asakusa with a guide from Tokyo Free Guide, but this tour was so in depth and really interesting! We learned a lot more on this tour and got to experience much more. I loved getting to try all the snacks and seeing the Buddhist and Shinto shrines. We also got to see cherry blossoms! She also showed us how to make a Samuri helmet in origami, which was super cool!
Our guide Yuki was very knowledgeable and patient with us. It was a particularly hot day and she made sure we could have plenty of break. I recommend this tour specially if you have a short time in Tokyo. It's a great cultural insight and we appreciated the snacks that were included in the ticket price.
