Review for: Berlin Sachsenhausen Memorial Half-Day Tour

Our guide Maria led us on an incredibly poignant, insightful and detailed tour of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Striking a great balance of solemn, light hearted and tactful, this tour is an important part of preserving the legacy of a terrible part of our collective history. A must-do activity during a visit to Berlin

I like this tour guide very much, very detailed explanation. The itinerary was very clear, and the tour guide also briefly explained the history of the buildings along the way in the city. The meeting place is also very easy, there will be a bunch of guides for different day tours there, and then you will be told which one is the right one. Highly recommended!

2 hours not quite enough to explore the place in depth but guide was excellent and bus trip comfortable.

Review for: Berlin Sachsenhausen Memorial Half-Day Tour

The tour guide was knowledgeable and also inspired reflection. However, the itinerary was too rushed, and we were unable to carefully explore the inside of the concentration camp. We only had ten minutes to view the museum section, which was quite disappointing.

More about Berlin Sachsenhausen Memorial Half-Day Tour

Travel to the memorial site on air-conditioned bus, where your expert guide will provide context about the Nazis' rise to power and the early concentration camp system. At Sachsenhausen, you'll learn about the camp's history, where over 200,000 were incarcerated and 45,000 perished due to exhaustion, undernourishment, disease, medical experiments, and extermination. Explore the barracks, infirmary, pathology lab, punishment cells, execution grounds, crematoria, and gas chamber. Hear about the inmates' brutal daily lives and inspiring stories of survival and solidarity. Discover how, during the war's final phase, mass killings and death marches escalated. After liberation in 1945, the camp became a Soviet Special Camp until 1950. The tour concludes with a return to central Berlin by coach
