Geibikei Gorge River Boat Ride Experience in Iwate

Buying boat tickets through the app is very easy, and the price is slightly cheaper than at the counter. The place is very beautiful. I went during the fall foliage season. There are ducks, and you can feed them too. It's amazing that the boatman can row with up to 50 people on board. On the way back, they even sang songs live for us. I highly recommend it.

It was very easy to redeem the ticket by showing the QR code at the ticket window. It's slightly cheaper to get it online though Klook than to buy it directly from the ticket counter at the boat pier. Since there was no fix time slot for the ticket, you can simply wait for the next boat if you miss one. The flat-bottomed boats are open-topped and completely exposed to the weather, so remember to bring a hat and sunglasses. Ladies are not advised to wear skirts as some boats, like the one I was on, had seats on the floor.

Very unique and quaint experience where you get to eat on the boat ride! The boat ride was more spacious than I expected, and not wonky at all. I could eat your bento and sukiyaki in peace as the boat slowly strolled through the gorges. The guide would introduce the different views as you go along the streams. In the middle, there would be a short 20 minute break where you get off the boat and walk to see the lion's nose and the wishing hole. Overall, it was a really nice and quaint experience. Would really recommend to get it with the bento and sukiyaki set to make it a unique and special one!

This experience was just okay, neither good nor bad. We arrived a little after 12 PM, planning to take the 1 PM boat. Then we realized the last time for the Axe Rice meal was also 1 PM, so I immediately rushed to the restaurant to inquire. However, I was told the restaurant was closed. But I saw them cleaning up after a group meal, so I suspected they canceled the package for individual guests because of the group. I was very angry at the time because I had paid, only to be told they were closed. I felt the arrangement was very poor, almost like I had been scammed, and I didn't know how to get a refund. Fortunately, after much inquiry and running around, our package was simply moved to another hut. Because we spent so much time running around, we were almost considered a no-show. In the end, the restaurant did prepare our meal. The service quality is rated 4 stars because everyone at the venue tried their best and patiently helped me resolve the difficulties. The 1 star deducted is because there was a lack of communication among them. After all, I was traveling with elderly family members and children, and having everything arranged only to be suddenly canceled would have been very troublesome, especially with the communication issues. The boat tour, however, was a lot of fun. The boat moved slowly, and it was very safe to just sit without needing a life jacket, though I saw they had them available for children, but the staff didn't specifically ask us to wear them. The boatman was very entertaining, singing and providing commentary.

better than expected boat ride in deep winter! Boats are fully sheltered so not cold, but duck feed to feed the hungry ducks in the river. the quiet snowy scene made for a very relaxing tour. boatman (lady in our case) will explain highlights with pamphlet. get off for a 20min walk and try yr luck throwing auspicious disks into a hole in rock wall. our boat lady sang the geibi song upon return ride. she was very good! check train timing to and from Ichinoseki. not frequent so plan ahead!

A fantastic experience! The scenery is beautiful, the boatman provided detailed explanations and was very humorous. The boat doesn't go too fast, so you can slowly appreciate the scenery. It's a very worthwhile activity to participate in.

When autumn turns to winter, the cruise ship will be equipped with a windproof cover to keep warm, and we will buy some feed to feed the ducklings. The ducklings want to eat and paddle hard, which is very cute! The tour guide on the boat introduces carefully and speaks various languages. He is very friendly. When you arrive, you can buy an engraved log (like a chess piece) and throw it into the longan, and your wish will come true! Ni=lion, one part of the scenery looks like a lion’s nose, so it’s called Nibi Creek. It’s one of the top 100 scenic spots and worth a visit~

It is a very worthwhile experience to include when visiting Iwate.

It was during a Japanese holiday, and the line to buy boat tickets on-site was incredibly long. However, thanks to booking through Klook, we only had to go to the group ticket counter to pick up our tickets, completely skipping the line. This saved us time and was more convenient, plus the price was slightly cheaper than buying tickets on-site. The scenery of Geibikei Gorge is truly breathtaking. The entire boat tour includes a 30-minute boat ride each way, with about 20 minutes in the middle to disembark, stroll around, and take pictures. Additionally, for just 100 yen, you can buy a bag of fish food, which you can use to feed not only the fish but also the ducks – a fun experience. The only drawback was that it rained just as we arrived, and the boat operator thoughtfully installed a rain cover on the boat. While this reflected the attentiveness of Japanese service, it blocked most of our view, impacting our enjoyment of the scenery. Even more unfortunately, the rain stopped about ten minutes after we set off, and the boats that departed afterward had already removed their rain covers. So, I have a small suggestion: if you encounter a brief shower, it might be worth waiting a little longer before boarding to avoid impacting your viewing experience.
