What to expect
Welcome to the traditional Korean bookbinding class, the only chance in Seoul you can experience the real traditional Korean bookbinding!
We will use Hanji. Hanji is traditional Korean paper used to make Annals of the Joseon Dynasty that is listed on UNESCO Memory of the World. Joseon royal family and Korean Confucian scholars and intellectuals would use it when writing diaries or taking notes.
The cover will be made by beautiful and classy silk weaved Korean traditional pattern. Dozens of colorful threads and silk are available.
As the final touch, a No-ri-gae, traditional Korean ornament knot is tied on the book.
You can make it and take it home right away!

I love craft and I have a wonderful time at “Danchoodan” this morning, learning the craft of book binding in the traditional way. Jin Hee is very patient and kind in conducting the class. It is well lit place with furniture that are well thought of, made for the purpose of the class. Comfortable and relaxing. Though today class was made up of solo travellers, the class was not “quiet”. We shared and discussed on our choices of cover, thread. An option to consider if you want something away from shopping, walking, or sightseeing. It is not difficult to find this place. Google map show the building. NAVER map guide you in subway transit. Alight at Daeheung station. Once out of Exit 2 (on road surface) made a u-turn to your left and walk along the pathment (without crossing any street). keep walking to building with address “100”. A signage “Danchoodan” in front of the building. Use the intercom (follow the instruction pasted on the glass door) for access. You won’t miss it.
This experience was an amazing experience in Seoul! It's very conveniently located in a cute neighborhood, and the studio where you do the activity is so beautiful. The teacher explained everything in great detail in English, and helped us when we needed help. Making the actual book took only an hour and a half to complete. The process was very simple - so it's beginner friendly, and the notebook you get to take home is very beautiful! Highly recommend this activity for those who want to make a personalized souvenir from Seoul in the style of traditional Korean books. (The teacher also took some amazing photos of us during the experience!)
An amazing experience. Making the notebook is easy and if you get stuck the instructor will help you out with everything. It is a wonderful souvenir from Korea! I really recommend booking this experience.
Fantastic experience for me. Great if your solo. The teacher goes a a slow pace so your don’t get confused, she was really helpful and supportive. Would highly recommend not only for making the note book but you also get to learn some history about the notebooks as well
What an amazing experience! Jinhee was so patient and friendly and walked us step-by-step through the entire process. She helped each person individually and even took pictures (and sent them to us right away). Highly recommend this unique and traditional South Korean experience!
we had a small group so it was really nice to be able to have a chance to talk with out teacher about the materials we were using. She even let us know where to go if we wished to get supplies to make it at home. we learnt 1 style of binding and she showed us a different style. I would go again and I even said she should offer an advanced session for those who have been before. I also liked that sha took photos for us that she sent after our session.
Fabulous time with Jenny in France Rabbit studio - fantastic and kind teacher. Excellent English. Lesson was a lovely way to spend winter day with warm cup of tea. We went through the various tools and steps. She had so much knowledge of the craft and answered my many questions. Loved picking the colours of the silk and thread. Great experience, shall bring my family when we visits next year!
I think this class will remain one of my best experiences in Korea! I was alone, and I was able to chat and laugh with Jinhee for a long time. The class was very interesting and I learned a lot! If you like notebooks, and manual activities in general, I highly recommend it!
