We stayed at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington during a recent trip to London and found the experience to be average at best.
The most frustrating issue was the complete lack of hand soap in our room upon check-in. We called housekeeping and were eventually brought a single tiny bar of soap that was broken into tinier pieces. After requesting a proper replacement a second time, no additional soap was ever delivered for the remainder of our stay.
Attention to basic housekeeping details seemed to be lacking throughout. The toilet paper roll on the dispenser was already half-used when we arrived, and the spare roll left on the counter was also only half full.
While the windows did an excellent job blocking outside noise, the walls between rooms were extremely thin. We could clearly hear conversations from the neighboring room late into the night, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep.
Room service was another disappointment. When placing an online order, we specifically requested extra napkins and ketchup. Room service even called to confirm the order and repeated our request back to us. Despite this, neither the extra napkins nor the ketchup were included when the food arrived.
The hotel's location in Kensington is convenient, and the windows provide good insulation from street noise, but the lack of attention to simple guest needs and repeated service failures left us underwhelmed. Overall, this was a mediocre stay that did not meet expectations.
