The Morgan Hotel San Simeon

We booked this place based on the great reviews, but it turned out to be nothing like what was described. This is an extremely overpriced cheap motel. The place is old. The furniture is worn out, the mosquito screens have holes, and the windows are so weathered that you can hardly see through them. There is absolutely no soundproofing. The breakfast is also poor: mostly bread with a few spreads.

Very conveniently located for those visiting Hearst Castle. It was very hot this time of year and the hotel does not have AC. It was nice to have a ceiling fan and an extra little rotating fan to help circulate the air. We had bf at Big Sur Diner. They were great at making a fast breakfast for us so we wouldn't miss our appointment.

We arrived early around 1:30 pm and the room was ready, so the front desk allowed us to check in. The breakfast was good; I would personally like to have more fruit option. This hotel is only 2 stories and no elevator Just for future traveler to know.

Floor was sticky, cleaning crew was loud early in the morning next to the room and upstairs. Very average room compared to the pictures. Staff was nice.

If somone wants modern style hotel, this place is not for you. Pretty old building. No microwave in the room. But small refrigerator was working well. We went for the weekdays. The swimming pool was closed and the breakfast was not as good, either. It was little disappointing, but the staffs were nice overall .

I’ll start with the fact that the hotel was clean. But everything about it was VERY outdated. I heard the springs move in the mattress which probably should’ve been replaced years ago. It would’ve been more comfortable if it had a better cover over it. There are quick fixes that could make it look better, like paint. I would rate this a 2 to 3. The vibe was cheap and again while it was clean… That was about all it had going for it.

The staff was wonderful, very kind and informative about the area and the hotel of the history and very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay.

The water in the shower never got warm.

The Morgan is my go to place when I visit the area. The service staff is always very helpful and the place has been doing maintenance and upgrades. Price is okay for the area and how this place stacks up compared to other options nearby. I would like for them to upgrade to smart TVs where people can login to use their streaming services or YouTube, and have their logins wiped upon checkout like other chains have done. The internet is not so great in the adjacent building where I always get a room. Larger refrigerator freezers would be a welcomed upgrade, as there is not a lot nearby for food and grocery, so I always bring provisions as I explore the coast. There is a nice beach area within easy walking distance.
