Very interesting visiting the Old Melbourne Gaol, we started with the escape artist tour around the outside of the building. Interesting to hear about how much it's changed over the years up til present day. Then we walked around the inside, there's a lot of reading to do but all with interesting stories. We read it carefully and figure it those amazing stories as well. Old Melbourne Gaol Really well run, cost is reasonable, informative. Staff friendly and approachable. Certainly worth a visit while you’re in Melbourne. The tour of the watch house was quite realistic! There are warnings for young children but my 15 years old boy was interested in it. We had a great trip on that day. Some of the earliest buildings constructed on Australian shores by the British empire were prisons and Australian colonial history is one of hardship. This is an interesting and nicely made museum with info on certain criminals who were executed here along with their death masks. It gives great insight to the difficulty of living conditions in Melbourne in the past.

My visit to the Old Melbourne Gaol was a special and significant experience, despite not joining the guided tour. Walking around the gaol, I could feel its eerie atmosphere and rich historical significance. The presence of wax figures added to the haunting vibe, bringing the past to life. The gaol's architecture and preserved artifacts provided a glimpse into the harsh realities of the past. I highly recommend a visit to the Old Melbourne Gaol for a unique and slightly spooky experience, where you can connect with Australian history and embrace the haunting beauty of this iconic landmark.

Visiting the Melbourne Gaol was surprisingly so much fun. The place is full of history, a little spooky, and super immersive — it honestly felt like stepping back in time. Walking through the old cells and hearing the stories behind the prisoners was both creepy and fascinating at the same time. Definitely one of the most unique experiences in Melbourne, and way more entertaining than I expected.
