Good to know

  • Temperature: The coldest season is from late November to the end of February of the following year, with temperatures generally ranging from -4°F to -25.6°F (-20°C to -32°C).
  • Clothing: For the upper body, we recommend wearing thermal underwear + a sweater + a close-fitting thin down jacket + a thick down jacket. For the outer layer, a mid-length or long thick down jacket or a thick windbreaker is best, and it should be loose-fitting.
  • For the lower body, we recommend wearing long johns + down pants + cold-proof windbreaker pants (with fleece lining). Be sure to bring a thick woolen hat or a Lei Feng hat that can cover your forehead, which is especially good, and then put on the hood of your down jacket for extra warmth. A scarf, mask, and gloves are essential, and they should all be thick. For shoes, you can buy thick hiking boots with deep treads. They should be one size larger than your usual shoes for slip resistance and warmth. Flat-bottomed snow boots are not suitable for people from the South, as they are easy to slip in. Buy thick cotton socks.
  • Skin Care: Bring some oily balm-type skin care products, moisturizing cream, and lip balm. Drink plenty of boiled water or eat more fruit to prevent rough and chapped skin.
  • Eye Protection: Prepare sunglasses or snow goggles, as the snow glare can be dazzling. Prolonged exposure can easily cause snow blindness, making it difficult to see. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent snow glare from hurting your eyes.
  • Slip Prevention: In winter, roads in the north often have ice and snow, making the road surface slippery. When walking on icy or snowy surfaces, remember to "Don't lift your feet too high, take small sliding steps to avoid falling, keep your hands out of your pockets, so you won't be caught off guard if you fall." When encountering icy roads, you can shuffle your feet along the ground to avoid falling. For those with unstable balance, it is recommended to buy a pair of ice cleats to put on your shoes for added safety.
  • Food: The taste of team meals in Northeast China is heavy, generally focusing on dark, salty, and sticky flavors. Tastes may vary slightly, but you will definitely be full.
  • Freeze Prevention: In cold conditions, the energy efficiency of batteries will decrease to varying degrees, and mobile phones or cameras may malfunction due to insufficient power. Digital cameras are especially vulnerable to freezing. Therefore, after shooting outdoors, promptly put the camera inside your coat for warmth and take it out when needed. Be sure to bring extra batteries.
  • Medicine: Because of the heating in Northeast China, there is a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors. Alternating between hot and cold temperatures, you should prepare medicines for treating colds and flu when traveling.
  • Activities: When engaging in outdoor activities in winter, try to remove rings, earrings, necklaces, and other jewelry. If they fall into the snow, finding them will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Pay attention to keeping exposed skin warm. If you get frostbite, do not apply hot water. Instead, use snow or cold water to relieve the pain, and then apply frostbite cream.
  • Cold Prevention: In winter, there is a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors in Northeast China, so wear a coat when going out, button it up or zip it up, and wear a hat or scarf. When entering a room or car, first open or take off your coat to allow the cold air to dissipate. When engaging in outdoor activities, do not unbutton your clothes or take off your hat to let the cold wind blow. If you find the hotel room too hot, you can open the window to cool it down, but do not open the window for too long, and be sure to close it when sleeping to avoid catching a cold.
  • Please bring relevant documents before departure, such as ID card, military officer证, soldier ID, student ID, disability certificate, etc. The difference in discounted tickets will be refunded on the spot.
