Fantastic Hotel

The Fantastic Hotel was unlike any hotel I have ever stayed in. First, the Plus side: the taxi ride from the airport cost $ 25 USD. The gentleman working the front desk was exceptionally pleasant in English, French and Spanish. I got to meet his wife and kids and they were all very nice. The hotel was exceptionally quiet, the pool was very clean and refreshing. The elevator was very fast and quiet – my room # 305 was quite small, but adequate, with a queen-size bed, table with 2 chairs, small fridge, and small bathroom. It was a simple, slightly downhill 25 minute walk to downtown, past houses, a couple of schools and a sports complex; a pleasant stroll. I felt safe in the daytime and at night. On the Minus side: There was no service at the hotel except housekeeping – which was very good – but you couldn’t get any food or drink at all, even though there were signs indicating otherwise. All in all – the hotel, location, etc was a good choice for me as I like to explore places on foot. It is definitely not a tourist hot spot, but was good value for the $ 125 a night I paid. Don’t let anyone tell you they exchange USD at par with the Euro in Marigot. Everywhere I went the rate ranged from 1:15 to 1:21 USD per Euro. Would I return to the Fantastic Hotel? As a single traveller I would, but if my wife came I would stay closer to the downtown area.

Room was clean.

Clean room, staff was helpful, air-conditioning was very nice and you cannot hear it. Very silent room was very nice and cool. I had a microwave refrigerator, which is great just for myself.

The kitchen offers a stove and pots and pans, but no cooking oil or ingredients.

We stayed here four nights before catching a sailing ship. While not luxurious, this hotel was perfect for our needs. The decor was dated but everything in the room was clean. Sheets clean. The mattress was a little firmer than I prefer but fine for short term. No hot water in the kitchen sink or bathroom sink but the hot water and water pressure in shower were wonderful. Daily maid service. Kitchenette had cups, plates, utensils. Bring your own coffee. We brought cone fillets but there were some in room. Fridge kept things cold. No I’ve machine on floor but when asked the clerk got me a small ice bucket full. The pool was clean and refreshing. Desk clerks responded quickly to any requests. It is in a neighborhood. The Marigot market is 0.8 miles away to walk. It took a couple of tries to find best, quickest route. From front door - turn right for a cute bakery open till 6p. From front door go left to a grocery store with plenty of snacks, drinks. Go left to walk to town and follow road to main thoroughfare, go left, then right at Rue de Republic. Then straight to waterfront, market and restaurants. We pulled our suitcases to waterfront to catch boat. It was bumpy but fine. You could take a taxi. Probably 10 euro.

AC is very good. Kitchen- no toaster or kettle, requesa can opener & a cutting knife & was given one.

Hotel a bit tired but room large and air conditioning definitely worked. Didn't use kitchen facilities so can't comment.
