Bagan, Myanmar is best known for its temple town, known bureaucratically as the Bagan Archaeological Zone. Once tourists catch sight of this sea of temples, there's no doubt that they would be in awe of these stupendous ruins.
This ancient city was built sometime during the 9th to the 13th century under the Pagan Kingdom. Initially, there were over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries in the area, however only around 2,000 of them remain. Every October through April, hot air balloons rise above the temples at dusk and dawn. It's truly a sight to behold, so make sure to plan your visits around these dates!
