Mount Cook, or Aoraki as it is known to locally, is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Its namesake national park is mostly covered by glaciers, and the biggest of them all, the Tasman Glacier, is a favorite destination among locals and tourists alike. Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the first climbers to have reached the summit of Mount Everest, was said to have trained in Mount Cook.
