Hotel Lion d'Or

We had a wonderful stay at the Lion d'Or. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the facilities were great!

The rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was kind and courteous. Breakfast buffet was excellent. A big plus was how close the property is to the train station.

The property is fantastic

The hotel is very close to the train/bus station as well as restaurants and a short walk to the center. My room had been recently renovated and was nicely furnished. The heat had been turned off but they gladly turned it back on for my floor.

The room we had was very clean, the beds were comfortable, but the ceilings in the room were very low (the room was under the eaves). While my family is of short stature, we were able to stay here, but this room would not have functioned well for a tall person. Also, the entrance to the room was through the closet--very strange layout. Other than that, staff was friendly, it had an elevator and was in a very convenient location near the Haarlem train station, but also near to the Haarlem tourist area---overall a good location if you are traveling by train.

We loved staying here instead of staying in Amsterdam for our trip to the Netherlands. This location is incredible to enjoy Haarlem and to transit into Amsterdam, Zaandam, and Zaanse Schans as the train/bus station is right across from the hotel. There is also bike rental next door which we rented bikes to bike out to the tulips fields (Tulip Experience) and Zaanvoort. Overall, our room was great, bed was comfortable, front desk was helpful. Would highly recommend staying here!

Hotel exterior is covered in scaffolding and sheets. No view from windows at all and anyway we had to keep curtains closed because of the workers. Some noise from the construction from 8:30am onwards. The curtains didn’t fit, so not much use if you need complete darkness to sleep well. The rooms are soundproofed, but the doors are not. When a neighbouring room door was closed the noise woke me up as I thought someone had entered my room. There was no wardrobe, just some hangers in the corner. Good points: Very nice staff, helpful and cheerful. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Great city centre location.

The proximity to the train was what sold us on this hotel. Just steps away, I worried it would be loud and/or not feel quite safe but I was wrong. Not a worry at all. The staff was wonderful to us, stored our luggage and prepared our room a little early, knowing that we had flown in from the states on an overnight flight. They didn't have to do that but they did with a smile and it was very much appreciated. The only reason I didn't give the hotel a perfect score is because they were renovating, so the entire hotel was covered in a white sheet and the scaffolding (and therefore the workers) were right outside our window, so we had to keep the drapes closed for out entire stay. We didn't spend much time in the room, so it wasn't a big deal. Also, we understood that it was a temporary situation that couldn't be avoided to keep the property looking great on the outside. The inside was impeccable and when you're laying your head down to sleep after a long day of exploring, that's what mattered the most. We would absolutely stay here again!

Lovely hotel close to town centre and very convenient for central train station to coast and Amsterdam!

Excellent proximity to train station to visit Amsterdam. A simple bus ride from airport.
