La nostra molt sol·licitada visita a la fàbrica de torrat de cafè local a l'antiga. Aquesta visita us porta a un dels pocs torradors de cafè locals que queden en un barri anodí que fins i tot els locals donen per fet. Aquí, aprendreu sobre els grans de cafè, d'on provenen, les tècniques de torrat úniques d'aquesta part del món, els secrets del cafè, la temperatura òptima d'elaboració, però, el que és més important, els nadius o herois que hi ha darrere d'aquesta fàbrica.
En el moment en què us acosteu, la forta i fragant aroma de cafè us arriba i, depenent de l'hora del dia, podreu veure les diferents etapes de torrat i preparació del producte acabat. Aquí, els 'oncles' de la fàbrica no parlen anglès, sinó un dialecte. Us permeten tocar els grans, tastar una mica de cafè, és clar, i si realment els agrada, us permeten rastrejar per refredar els grans de cafè bullents!
Igual de popular és la nostra visita a una fàbrica de pa local on només en queden cinc. La visita us ofereix un recorregut entre bastidors per explicar aquesta vella glòria i per què són diferents del pa produït en massa dels prestatges. Si us agraden les coses retro antigues que ràpidament passen de moda, us encantarà veure l'equip antic i les taules de fusta que encara s'utilitzen en fàbriques antigues com aquestes.

I usually go to Singapore without a tour. However I decided to give this tour a go when I read that it tackled the dying industries in Singapore. The tour was raw, honest, and an eye-opener. Andros the tour guide gave us insights I would never get from books nor even from the locals I personally know. I highly recommend that one should take this tour. It is an honest to goodness interesting experience.
Our guide Helen was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun by adding in quizzes then following up with in-depth information. I felt like we learnt a lot during the tour. What I also liked about the tour is that they started the trip with a local breakfast with coffee and bread from the places we were about to visit. Helen was considerate and offered my daughter Milo instead so that she feels included even though she cannot have coffee because of the caffeine content. The length of the tour was just right and I highly recommend the tour as a fun thing to do.
I have learnt and appreciate more of our local kopi and local bread makers from this tour. Tasted one of the best kopi and hainanese bread in my life, a bit sad to think that these trades are disappearing within my generation. Enjoy while they are still around!
Personally dont feel that this tour is worth what it costs. It is really just a quick walk around itinerary; there is no hands on component. The guide does not offer much additional insight other than translating what the shop owners say and helping to facilitate questions only when attendees ask.

One of the things you mentioned was the lack of hands-on components. And you are right. When we designed this, there were two hands-on segments. However, due to COVID-19 where we try to minimize contact between guests. So to circumvent not entering the inside of the factory, the guides are given permission to bring out the pre-roasted beans and corn to show the guests. This is not just for this tour but also all tours that involve consumption of food or drink as per the guidelines of Safe Measurement practices.
