UPDATED Traveling To Bangkok? You Now Need To Register For A BTS Rabbit Card banner

Let's get to know the Rabbit Card!

If you’re planning a trip to Bangkok, chances are you’ll be using the Bangkok BTS Skytrain system to get around. Commuters who intend to purchase a BTS Skytrain Rabbit Card or top up their existing cards must register at the ticket offices.
While this new process will undoubtedly worsen the existing long queues at BTS stations, there are ways to work around this new regulation, like pre-buying your Rabbit Card on Klook for collection at the 4th floor of Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Central World.
To avoid any unwanted commuting delays, here’s what you need to know about this new process.

    What is a Rabbit Card?

The Rabbit Card is a reloadable transport card used for the BTS Skytrain system in Bangkok that can also be used at selected F&B outlets and retail shops. These cards can carry a maximum of THB4,000 at any given time.
To check your Rabbit Card's validity, you can go to this site.

    What is this new process?

Anyone purchasing a Rabbit Card or topping up their existing Rabbit Cards are now required to produce identification documents when doing so. Commuters were not previously required to produce proof of identification.

    Who is affected?

Both locals and tourists are required to register. Locals will need to provide their ID card numbers, email addresses and contact numbers while foreigners will need to produce their passport.

Are single trip BTS Skytrain tickets affected?

No, you will not need to register to purchase single trip BTS Skytrain tickets from the kiosks. However, do expect long queues, especially with the implementation of this new process.
To avoid having to queue every single time you take the BTS Skytrain, consider purchasing a BTS One Day Pass on Klook available for collection at either Central World or when you land at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
P.S. You do not need to register your BTS One Day Pass!

Can I purchase my Rabbit Card elsewhere?

No. Rabbit Cards are typically only available for purchase at BTS Stations.
However, Klook has partnered with BTS to allow pre-booking of Rabbit Cards so you can skip the queues at BTS Stations! This also means you get to skip the initial registration process at the stations and will only have to register if you need to top up your card. You can pick up your Rabbit Card at Central World or at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
