Can you bring it into Australia?

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have just updated their laws on what you can bring into the country. If you’re heading there on a holiday, be sure to double check your bags to ensure they do not contain the following. Seemingly harmless snacks like nuts from the plane are not allowed while your 3 in 1 instant drink packets are permitted but will need to be declared.
We’ve listed down some of the most popular items you might have questions about and whether or not you’ll need to declare them or if they are permitted.
If you’re unsure about whether a product needs to be declared or not, head over to the Biosecurity Import Conditions System BICON website and key in the specifics of your product to find out.
For more information on the specifics of each product, check out the Australian Border Force website.

What happens if you fail to declare the products?

If you are caught, you might be subjected to civil penalties and may be prosecuted, fined more than $420,000 and imprisoned for up to 10 years. You will not be penalised under the Biosecurity Act 2015 if you declare all goods, even if they are not allowed into Australia.
If you fail to declare anything that cannot be imported, the officers at immigration clearance points may shorten or cancel your visa. You may also be prevented from returning to Australia for three years.
