Our favourite SGD 1 picks!
Food Street Fried Kway Teow Mee
A hawker staple is definitely a steaming plate of delicious Char Kway Teow (fried flat rice noodles)! For the uninitiated, these flat rice noodles are tossed in high heat with dark soy sauce, eggs, bean sprouts, Chinese sausage and cockles to give you a plate of delicious noodles worth the calories.
Cost: SGD 5
Chinatown Cheng Kee Hokkien Mee
Who can resist a good plate of Fried Hokkien Mee! Think egg noodles simmered in a thick prawn gravy, topped off with fresh prawn, squid, pork slices and fried pork lard! You’ll be slurping up every last strand of noodle for sure.
Cost: SGD 5
Apart from Hokkien Mee, you can also enjoy a plate or Fried Carrot Cake. Did you know there’s actually no carrot in the local version of carrot cake? The “carrot cake” in question is made from a mixture of radish and flour and is fried together with eggs and preserved vegetables. There are 2 ways you can choose to have it – black (fried with sweet dark soy sauce) or white (fried with egg).
Cost: SGD 4.50
Uncle Wang BBQ
If you’re looking for some snacks to complement your meal or starters to share with the gang, there are some Singaporean hawker snack essentials you must try. Everyone loves a good chicken wing and these barbequed wings are so addictive you can’t stop at one!
Rojak is a fruit and vegetable salad, making it a great side dish to pair with those oily mains! Tossed in a sweet peanut sauce, the apples, pineapples and cucumbers are crunchy and refreshing. Our favorite part of a rojak is of course the fried dough fritters!
Cost: Rojak SGD 5 | BBQ Chicken Wing SGD 1.80 | Otah SGD 2
