Singaporeans can use e-Passport gates in Britain

Starting from 20 May 2019, Singaporeans visiting Britain are eligible to use the automated e-Passport gates at 15 different airports across the country. The Singapore passport is the newest country to enjoy this border entry service. This also includes arrivals via Eurostar terminals, allowing for faster and more secure processing of passengers.

The British government has also decided to scrape the use of paper landing cards for international visitors arriving in the UK.

How does the e-Passport gate work?

The e-Passport gates will make use of facial recognition technology to compare visitors’ passport photographs with their current appearance. Anyone rejected by the gates will then be sent to an alternative manned channel for a check by border force officials.

Am I eligible for the e-Passport gate?

Travellers above the age of 18 with a biometric or “chipped” passport can use these gates. Children aged 12 to 17 years old accompanied by an adult can also use these gates.
