As soon as you step foot inside Ngong Ping Village, you’ll be greeted by what is known as the “Tree of Awakening”, or the Bodhi Tree. This tree is decorated with hundreds of red-tagged wishes, making it a eye-catching photo op area! However, before posing for a picture, be sure to hang your wish high up on the tree!

From Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal (Exit B of Tung Chung MTR Station), take a 25-minute cable car ride to Ngong Ping. You will arrive at the Bodhi Tree right before entering Ngong Ping Village.

3. Wisdom Path

Get the best of both worlds at Wisdom Path, which is both culturally enriching and Instagrammable! In the form of an infinity pattern, the Wisdom Path showcases 38 wooden columns with chinese prayer verses engraved in each one from the Heart Sutra.

Though not as popular as attractions like the Big Buddha and the Monastery, we highly recommend dropping by this unique culture spot just at the foot of Lantau Peak.

4. Tian Tian Buddha

No visit to Lantau Island would be complete without a picture with the famous Big Buddha, the second largest outdoor Buddha in the world! There are several photo spots across Ngong Ping Village and Lantau Island, but our top pick photo spot would definitely by the foot of the stairs. If you can manage to make an early visit, you might just score a photo op without all the other tourists peeking in the background!

5. Po Lin Monastery

The Po Lin Monastery is located just down the path from the Big Buddha. Not only is this a popular attraction in Lantau Island, but it also happens to be a world-renowned architectural establishment. Adorned with the most intricate detail and a stunning collection of patterns, a photo in any corner of this monastery will definitely go perfectly with any Instagram aesthetic!

From Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal (Exit B of Tung Chung MTR Station), take a 25-minute cable car ride to Ngong Ping. The Po Lin Monastery is about a 10-minute walk from Ngong Ping Village, and a 5 minute walk from the Tian Tian Buddha.

6. HK Market Yat Tung

The Hong Kong Market in Yat Tung isn’t exactly the first place you think of visiting for “Instagrammable” snapshots. However, after undergoing major renovation, the market is now dressed to mimic the streets of old-school Hong Kong, with neon light street signs, graffiti, and vintage floor tiles. So if you get the chance to drop by Yat Tung on your way back from Ngong Ping, be sure to drop by the Hong Kong Market for a quick photoshoot and delicious delicacies!

How To Get There:
From Tung Chung MTR Station, take Bus no. 38 to reach Yat Tung Shopping Centre. The Hong Kong Market is located at the Ground Floor of the shopping centre.

7. Sunset Peak

Take a break from the bustling city and trek up one the third highest mountain in the country! Whether or not you’re a versed hiker, the Sunset Peak hike will be a truly enjoyable one with three different paths to choose from. At the end of the hike, you’ll be rewarded with stunning sights and a chance to be amongst the clouds.

8. Ngong Ping Piazza

This plaza connects four of Lantau Island’s most famous tourist attractions, namely the Po Lin Monastery, the Big Buddha, the Ngong Ping Village, and Wisdom Path. Surrounding the village, you’ll also find the Bodhi Path and a beautiful garden where you can also snap a couple of photos!

Hop aboard the Tai O boat and get a glimpse of local life, the iconic stilt houses and as well as the General’s Rock. This is also the perfect opportunity to snap all those photos!
