What is the Boryeong Mud Festival?
The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual event that occurs every month of July in Boryeong South Korea. It began in 1998 as an initiative to bring together the local community and boost tourism in Boryeong. Two decades later, this award winning Mud Festival remains one of South Korea’s most sought after festivals, drawing in millions of visitors every year!
For ten days straight, festival-goers cover their bodies with mud through a series of activities, massages, and makeovers! Drenching yourself in mud may seem a bit odd, but Boryeongs mud is rich with nutrients that have incredible benefits for the skin! If anything, the South Koreans are especially known for their skin-first philosophy that’s made waves throughout the world!
This year, the Boryeong Mud Festival will kickoff on July 13th and continue on until July 22nd! With over 15 different activities available, participants are sure to have a mud-tastic time!
What to expect?
Apart from a crazy amount of mud, you can expect a whole lot of fun! From mud slides to mud makeovers, this festival is definitely nothing short of exciting!
During the day time, the entire stretch of Daecheon beach will be entirely covered with people, food stalls, and activity booths. Choose your own adventure and pick from mud slides, mud baths, mud massages, mud facials, mud wrestling, and a handful of other activities available suitable for all ages!
The fun doesn’t end there! At night, dance and jam to the beats of the country’s hottest icons as they perform a Boryeong-exclusive set at the concert grounds! You can also skip the concert and head to one of the many beach parties happening and meet up with your new-found friends for some drinks and dancing!
