Good location and welcoming staff, noise travels unfortunately and we could hear room service being delivered to other rooms and the cleaning missed some bits left from the previous occupants of our room

The hotel is really lovely. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious. I loved the Masala chai, the dosas and the buffet. All the staff (checkin/restaurant, housekeeping, concierge) are all pleasant, attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed my stay. The only comment I have is that my room (executive room) while comfortable was very very plain and boring. The lack of decor was obvious and any expenses associated with adding some color or touch of uniqueness (flowers, vibrant Indian fabric cushions, bed coverlets, etc) would be minimal and would have been nice and made the stay more enjoyable as this is a Taj hotel. The Instagram reels feature rooms that are the renovated rooms. These older rooms pale by comparison. Seeing the hotel’s feeds on Facebook and Instagram daily of the rooms featured made me feel a bit less than.

There are hotels that rely on location, hotels that rely on reputation, and hotels that understand that the entire experience ultimately depends on people. The Taj in St James succeeds on all three counts, but it was the staff who made the greatest impression. From the moment we arrived, the level of assistance was extraordinary. Nothing felt rehearsed or mechanical. Every question was answered quickly, every request was handled with genuine care, and the staff seemed able to anticipate what was needed before it had even been properly explained. Their helpfulness was not simply professional; it was instinctive. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, combining grandeur with warmth. The interiors are elegant without becoming intimidating, and every space feels deliberate, polished and carefully maintained. It has the confidence of a luxury hotel without the coldness that sometimes accompanies it. Our room was equally impressive: spacious, comfortable and beautifully presented. It provided exactly what a great hotel room should provide—a calm, private refuge from the movement and noise of London outside. The Taj in St James is a remarkable hotel, but its strongest asset is undoubtedly its staff. Beautiful surroundings can be designed. Excellent service has to be delivered, moment by moment, by people who genuinely care. Here, it was delivered flawlessly.

I booked two rooms, one for my husband and I and the other one for my son, wife and two children. The rooms were small but clean. The bath sheets were great. I did not see their room but ours overlooked the back of a school and the other window a brick wall. The ad for superior room appeared as though we would have a nice view but that was not so. It was ok as we did not stay in the room much. The king size bed was short and my feet went over the edge and I’m only 5’ 7”. We had breakfast at the buffet, the only place in the hotel available for breakfast. That was a big disappointment. They did not allow à la carte orders and we had to pay for the full buffet, which was 55 lbs per person, including children. The selection was poor and the bread was not fresh. The crescents were good. The cost was almost $500. for breakfast. We ate breakfast across the street after that and it was much better and less expensive. Besides this breakfast we enjoyed our stay. The patio outside the restaurant was quite lovely.

Staff was great and room was spacious by London standards What makes it great though is the location. Convenient and walkable to so many sites!

The staff as always are the best. The room was not so great. We had the noise from the train ( I think ) throughout the day stopping only late at night for a few hours. We have stayed at the hotel on many previous occasions and in all fairness the rooms we have previously been given have all been outstanding. So we were a bit disappointed this time.

A very special experience we were made to feel special and everyone was so helpful. Great place to base yourself while visiting London.
