Beautifully maintained property. My room had an excellent view. The shops on the 1st floor were enjoyable to visit. I would be happy to stay here again.

No wonder my friend said we had to stay at the Shiroyama on learning we are going to Kagoshima. The hotel is like the Tokyo Imperial Hotel and more transported to this location on top of a hill, facing the Sakurajima volcano, which one can stare at while bathing in the open air mineral waters at the onsen/spa. There are many different restaurants inside this enormous place so we dined in for the 2 nights. There is a shuttle service to the downtown area to while the daytime hours, which also goes to the train station.

The hotel looks down from a hilltop over the castle park and city and bay to the volcano. It is clearly a beloved landmark and reminded me of marquee properties in US resorts 50 years ago. Completely in a good way.

Staff was extremely helpful. However, no English was spoken at all. Restaurants were excellent. Location was very special with a view of Mount Sakurajima.

I had a room with view on volcano. It was great on morning time. There was possible to open narrow window to get some fresh air. Room was clean. I was on paid buffet breakfast. Great variety of dishes.

The 3 restaurants we tried were disappointing and pricey for what you got. The service was slow even tho they were not busy. The spa and moisture treatments we got were fantastic. Once we upgraded our room it was good before that they put us in the last room in the farthest bldg away with no windows, not even in the crazy long hallway with super low ceilings. Very claustrophobic!

Most beautiful view for an onsen that we’ve been to in Japan so far. The free town shuttles are to and from the bus / train station + 2 other downtown locations are frequent and convenient. The hotel amenities are great with so many options, a Family Mart and bakery on the premises
