All you need to know about Shanghai Disneyland
Shanghai Disneyland is the newest of the Disneyland theme parks, located in Shanghai, China. Home to the largest and tallest Sleeping Beauty castle of all Disney theme parks, 6 different themed lands, 2 hotels and a whole bunch of magic, it definitely deserves a spot on your list.
With so much to see and do, you’ll need to plan your theme park strategy in order to conquer the park! Read on to discover insider tips and key information to help you maximize your day at Shanghai Disneyland.
Getting your Shanghai Disneyland ticket
Tickets are available at Shanghai Disneyland itself, but these often involve long queues. By booking on Klook, you can be one of the first few to enter the park with a mobile e-voucher sent straight to your mobile phone right away. Remember to have your passport and e-voucher with you when entering the park for verification at the gates.
Depending on your schedule, Klook offers both 1-day and 2-day admission passes. For those who want to explore the park at your own pace, we recommend getting the 2-day pass. This way, you’ll get to experience your favorite rides multiple times and experience the Disney magic to its fullest.
When to visit Shanghai Disneyland
If you can, plan your trip around these periods to avoid the peak season of Shanghai Disneyland. An excellent rule of thumb is to avoid Chinese New Year (February) as well as National Day (First week of October).
Summer is hot and humid (June - September) and temperatures average at about 35 degrees celsius. Winter (December - February) is also worth avoiding unless you like the cold. With temperatures dropping as low as 0 degrees, you might end up freezing while queueing for rides.
The best time to visit would be end of February and March where the weather is milder as well as September when the summer rush is over.
Staying at Shanghai Disney Resort
There are two hotels in Shanghai Disney Resort namely the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel. While they might cost more than staying at surrounding hotels, there are certain perks you just might not be able to refuse:
- Complimentary water taxi to Shanghai Disneyland from Shanghai Disneyland hotel
- Shuttle bus service to the park
- Advanced reservations for Disney Fastpass (when you book the Disney hotel and park tickets bundle package via Shanghai Disney Resort)
- Advanced entry to Shanghai Disneyland via the Disneytown priority entrance

Getting to Shanghai Disneyland
Shanghai Disneyland is conveniently located at the end of train line 11 if you’re coming from Downtown Shanghai.
If you’re traveling with family or in a group, we’d suggest booking a private car transfer for a hassle-free experience. This way you won’t have to worry about getting lost in the trains or having to drag your tired bodies on public transportation after a long day at Disneyland.
Shanghai Disneyland Fastpass
The Disney Fastpass allows you to return to the ride at a specific time frame for shorter queues! You can pick one up at the Guest Services counters of the following attractions or through the Shanghai Disneyland App. Do note you’re only allowed to hold one Fastpass at any one time and each person needs to have their own Fastpass for the ride.
Did we also mention that these Fastpasses are FREE!
If you’re using the Guest Services counters, go to the kiosks to scan your ticket and retrieve a receipt of your Fastpass! Do not lose this receipt as you’ll need to show it to the cast member along with your ticket when you return at the designated time slot .
If you’ve got the Shanghai Disneyland Official App, all you’ll need to do is scan the QR code on your ticket and select “Get Fastpass”.
Fastpass attractions include:
- TRON Lightcycle Power Run – Tomorrowland
- Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue – Tomorrowland
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – Fantasyland
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh – Fantasyland
- Peter Pan’s Flight – Fantasyland
- Roaring Rapids – Adventure Isle
- Soaring Over the Horizon – Adventure Isle
Shanghai Disneyland tips
- Opt for single-rider lines for shorter queues
- Download the Shanghai Disneyland App so you’ll be notified of all ride closures and show timings as well as wait times
- Bring an empty water bottle since you can get cold water from the water fountains. This will save you some cash on buying bottled water

Shanghai Disneyland Food
The Snackin’ Kraken
Nothing says a day out at a theme park like some sugary snacks to kickstart the sugar rush! Grab a cute Minnie chocolate donut from The Snackin’ Kraken at Treasure Cove. Almost too cute to eat, this will make a great mid-day snack in between all the rides.
Pinocchio Village Kitchen
If you’re looking for a more substantial meal, we’ll suggest getting a pizza from the Pinocchio Village Kitchen in Fantasyland. If you can’t decide on a flavor, try the peking duck flavored Mickey shaped pizza! They also have rice bowls and fried noodles for those who don’t fancy pizza.
