Travel to Takachiho Gorge, the epitome of Japanese natural beauty, for boating, nature walks and ancient landmarks visits
Trace the paths of the gods and travel to one of the most beautiful scenic spots in Kyushu, the Takachiho Gorge. The natural wonder was formed from a natural phenomenon by the Aso volcanos when sudden cooling led to spectacular cliffs that rise between 80 to 100 meters above the river. Some of the region's most sacred and mythical locations can be found around the gorge such as Takachicho Shrine, an 1800 year old shrine home to a grove of evergreen trees which can claim an impressive 800 years. One of the best ways to view the gorge is by boat – come face to face with the 17 meter Manai Falls on your half hour paddle.

This 1-day tour with Helen is one of the highlights of our trip in Kyushu. Helen sent us email before the trip for confirmation. After picking us up from Higo Ozu JR station, she drove us to Takashiho directly. On the way she introduced about the Japanese culture and interesting news. She is very helpful and friendly to reply any questions we raised. Upon arriving at the scenic spots, her introduction is on point and fruitful. Her presentation is very lively as well. Definitely recommending this! P.S. Helen represents the "Explore Kumamoto" website. You could visit her website to know more about her and Kumamoto.
Fantastic trip by Helen, who gave very good insight of the shrines and mythology Japanese stories. Was well worth the trip!
