What To Expect

Not much time to explore Pune? This walking tour will get you to the most important locations and discover their stories with the help of an English speaking storyteller guide. You meet your guide at Shaniwar Warda Fort, where you'll explore what remains of this historic site. Built in 1732, this is the very center of control for the Peshwas in the Maratha Empire. Learn about this empire as you walk through the halls. Next, you head to Dagdusheth Halwai Temple, dedicated to the Hundu God Ganesh. The temple is unique for being popular among the Maharashtra, with thousands and thousands of pilgrims trekking to it every day. Learn about the Ganeshotsav Festival held here and the incredible origins of the temple. Then you head to Shaniwar Peth, famed for being Pune's oldest market. It also has numerous schools in the area, and is a major thoroughfare of daily local life. You'll learn more about the local spirituality and religion through a visit to a local Ganesha Temple before heading to the administrative buildings. Built Peshwa Bajirao, a former general of the Maratha Empire, it's a symbol of his authority. The next and last stop is at the Vishrambaug Wada, a breathtaking mansion in Bajirao Road, and the former residence of Peshwa Bajirao II. This residence stands as a legacy of the Peshwas, also holding a post office as well as municipal offices. This is a great opportunity to learn about the background of each location and learn more about the history of Pune.
