What to expect

Experience the dynamic fusion of tradition and modernity in Singapore's Chinatown, where local hawker stalls coexist with trendy new-age bars.

Begin your adventure on Pagoda Street at 5 pm, by trying Bakkwa, a succulent jerky-like meat slow-grilled over charcoal. Wander further and explore the offerings of various vendors selling tropical fruits, including the famed Durian, along with fresh seafood and daily essentials.

Proceed to the Chinatown Complex, where a hawker centre awaits with its myriad of food stalls. Sample either the savoury "carrot cake" or Char Keow Teow, a popular side dish that tantalizes with its simple yet flavourful ingredients.

Here you'll taste soya sauce chicken rice: succulent, tender marinated chicken paired with white rice and peanuts and a dessert shop.

Review for: [Join-in] Singapore Foodie Experience: Morning Tour

Had a great experience with guide Kim Ping. Came in with little to no knowledge of what types of foods were available in hawker centres. We tasted a total of 9 dishes and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would definitely recommend anyone to take this tour, Kim Ping was friendly, professional and very knowledgeable.

My husband and I did the food tour during our second night in Singapore with Kim. She was absolutely amazing; extremely knowledgeable on all local cuisine and the best options for trying different styles of food. She also showed us around to some fantastic artwork and gave us an explanation of each artwork at the different locations. Not only was the food tour great, but we also now have a few options for places to eat in the coming days that were not included on the food tour, but highly recommended by Kim.

It was a pleasure to discover a variety of local specialities (coffe, toast, pastries, chicken rice, and much more) with a native of Singapore’s Chinatown. Go with an empty stomach. Highlight of our trip.

Due to a mis-communicatton with the tour pickup point, the tour company rescheduled the tour for the next day. This was greatly appreciated. We really enjoyed the tour. Great money value. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and waited to ensure that our transportation arrived and we were safetly in the car before she ended the tour. We would gladly recommend this tour.

Our guide never showed up. We arrived 10 minutes earlier than the designated time. There were already several guides at the meeting point, and we were advised to try contacting ours. However, the phone number provided was Indonesian. We tried contacting them via email through WhatsApp. Fortunately, the operator was very helpful and investigated immediately. The company contacted another guide who had already departed, and they turned back to pick us up. That guide said our original guide had an unexpected problem and couldn't make it, and that they hadn't forgotten about us. However, with the two of us joining, it seemed to disrupt the planned table arrangements and group balance. Due to heavy rain, our activities were restricted, and one by one, people started leaving... and still no sign of our guide. The schedule was from 5 PM to 8 PM, but by around 7 PM, no one was left. This was truly an unusually disorganized and haphazard experience. The guide knew they couldn't make it but kept us waiting without any communication. We thought it would be fine since we booked through KLOOK, but we can't trust them at all. If you're not comfortable negotiating in English, I think it's safer to choose a different company. The rating is less than zero stars, but I'm grateful to the operator.

Yi by Jereme Leung at Raffles Hotel Singapore

Specially curated to present lost masterpieces to ancient Chinese provincial dishes, 藝 yì by Jereme Leung does not look to present one specific style of Chinese cuisine. Instead, Jereme showcases an array of Chinese cuisines with a modern touch, such as the eye-catching Hundred-ring Cucumber with Sea Whelk – a classic dish found in China’s Northern region during warm summer months. The Hundred-ring Cucumber with Sea Whelk at 藝 yì by Jereme Leung is skillfully sliced and served with refreshing vinaigrette and sea whelk. Unlike a pot of customary tea, Jereme prefers and encourages guests to pair their meals with a bottle of wine or a cocktail, together with his signature drinking snacks. He believes that this pairing invigorates the communal vibrancy of a home-cooked meal while encouraging heart-warming conversations.
