Lala Mountain National Forest Park is home to 24 giant trees ranging in age from 250 to 1,500 years. Among them, trees numbered 1, 11, 14, 17, 18, 21, and 24 are over 1,000 years old. The stunning trail is 3.3 kilometers long and takes about 3 hours for a round trip. The air is fresh, the trail is flat and easy to walk, and the scenery is beautiful. There are restrooms, pavilions, and seats along the way for resting. Parking is convenient and the road is wide. The vending area has a limited selection, so it is recommended to bring your own food to replenish energy. The forest recreation area has clear signs and trails, including three circular routes, making it suitable for the whole family. I purchased tickets on Klook this time, which was convenient, fast, and included free parking. Scanning the code allowed direct entry. Highly recommended!
Lala Mountain National Forest Recreation Area is a secret place that is definitely worth visiting. Whether you are a nature-loving traveler or someone who wants to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and seek tranquility, you can find your own moment of peace here. As you enter the park, you will see red cypress and flat cypress trees all over the mountains and the thousand-year-old sacred trees, which are breathtaking. It feels like you have walked into a primeval forest where time has stood still. The trails are well planned, and along the way you can enjoy the misty mountain scenery, listen to the chirping of insects and birds, and feel the vitality of the forest. The air is fresh and the scenery is pleasant, especially in autumn and winter, when the layers of mountain mist and cool climate make people feel relaxed and happy. This is not only a great place for hiking, but also the best choice to recharge your body and mind!
Very convenient to use, you just show the QR code at the entry then you can then drive in without delay, no parking fee is required as well. The recreational area is also great to spend a day, wandering in this red cypress area.
It is very convenient to book tickets with Klook. The scenery along the way is beautiful. The first trail is a gravel trail, and it is a wooden trail after a while. You can hear birds and insects chirping beside the trail. There are phytoncides along the way. The trail sometimes climbs uphill, so that the body can absorb more phytoncides
It is worth going to see the magnificent giant trees. It takes about three hours to go around the whole circle. The naturally cool temperature is maintained between 21-25 degrees, which is completely different from the scorching heat at the foot of the mountain. It is very refreshing to walk. It is convenient to buy electronic tickets and there is no parking fee. It is highly recommended.
Lalashan National Forest Park has several giant tree trails. You can explore about 80% of the giant trees in approximately 2 hours round trip. There are restrooms and pavilions along the way for resting. It's definitely worth a visit!
Lala Mountain National Forest Recreation Area is perfect for family hikes. The trails are comfortable and easy, making it a great place to relax and soak in the phytoncides. The only downside is that the food vendors only accept cash.
Five-star scenic spot, the air is very clean, a good place full of phytoncides, the trail is well planned, some trails are still being re-paved with stone steps, suitable for family travel... Disadvantages: far away & few parking spaces

Guide

  • Lalashan is located at the border of Fuxing District, Taoyuan City and Wulai District, New Taipei City.
  • The park is rich in forest types, such as Acer palmatum, Acer davidii, Fagus hayatae and other deciduous trees. Every late autumn, the green leaves turn yellow and red, which is particularly poetic.
  • Here, you can fully appreciate the giant trees aged between 500 and 3,000 years old. Surrounded by these myth-like, surviving red cypress giant trees, you can be healed by the forest and enjoy the fresh phytoncides.

Lalashan Forest Recreation Area Tickets

Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area is located in the Baling area of Fuxing District, Taoyuan City, on the Northern Cross-Island Highway. The Atayal tribe of Baling is named "Balung," which means "cypress" or "giant fallen wood." "Lala" is the transliteration of the Atayal word "R'ra," meaning "beautiful," "amazing," or "overlooking and guarding." It is said that this area was where the tribesmen watched for prey and defended against foreign enemies, and that the tribesmen who came here were amazed and felt good, which is enough to show that this area has abundant cypress and ecological resources.

Cypress trees are only found in the cloud and mist zones of North America, Japan, and Taiwan in the world. Therefore, the cypress forest of Lalashan is very precious. Located in the fog forest zone, the vegetation classification belongs to the original coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, which completely preserves the precious giant cypress tree group created by the natural environment for thousands of years. It is also an important habitat for wild animals and plants such as the Formosan blue magpie, the yellow-bellied flycatcher, and the Formosan serow. It is a highly representative forest ecosystem in the northern mid-altitude mountains and has rich natural and cultural characteristics.
