What to expect
The iconic Rainforest World Music Festival marks its legendary return, featuring an international cast of world renowned performers never seen before in Sarawak. The annual three-day music festival celebrates the diversity of world music in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts.
This year’s festival will be making a ‘physical’ comeback from 23rd to 25th June at Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching. The festival’s line-up will feature a total of 199 musicians from 12 countries, across more than 3 continents to perform a diverse range of music genres.
Performers include Grammy Awards winner, ‘Gipsy Kings’ featuring Tonino Baliardo from France, ‘Big Mountain’ from Jamaica/USA, ‘Safi Theatre’ from Tanzania, ‘Rastak’ from Iran, ‘Fasylive’ from Maldives, ‘Afriquoi’ from the United Kingdom, ‘Chatusram’ from India, ‘Rizal Hadi & Folk’ from Indonesia and ‘Ethno Thai Fusion Sound Band’ from Thailand. The line-up will also include performers from Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The Rainforest World Music Festival (often abbreviated as RWMF) is an annual three-day music festival celebrating the diversity of world music, held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts. Starting with only a few hundred people in the audience in 1998, the Festival has grown to an internationally recognized music festival, receiving awards among them as one of the Top 25 Best International Festivals awarded by Songlines Magazine for six consecutive years (2010 to 2015). The festival features a wide range of performances from traditional music, to world fusion and contemporary world music.

It was a Wonderful experience to attend this year’s rainforest festival with my friends. Although the weather was hot, the organisers were well prepared and the heat didn’t bother us much in the end. We stayed til almost midnight and had a scrumptious local dinner at the venue as well. Will definitely come again after a few years.
Great experience indulging the music festival. It has also a wide varieties of pop up stalls showcasing local crafts, local products and allowing tourists in getting into knowing this beautiful land of Sarawak better.
It was a great experience for our first time there, we attended a workshop there and 2 days music festival. Due to fear for long queues for bus shuttles or unable to catch the free shuttle bus before the final act on both days, we had to skip part of the final main acts. Only comment / feedback was we noticed that the water refills were empty very early in the afternoon in virtually every water station on both days and not refilled. This should certainly be improved considering the organisers advocated participants to bring own reusable water bottles to reduce plastics. Not much use if there is no drinking water to fill it up.
It was an amazing and affordable festival! Can’t wait June next year!
The ticket redemption was seamless. Just need to show the ticket voucher qr code. Everything was great. Free shuttle busses were provided from Kuching town to the Cultural Village. The workshops, art market, performances are amazing. Would love to come again next year.

Rwmf. An experience. Though with the price u pay, don't expect clean toilets. Dirty. Very dirty. And transport needs to be paid. The artists line up was okay.
