The Ganden Sumtseling Monastary is known to many in a number of different ways. Also called the Songzanlin Monastary, the old temple is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastary in Yunnan Province. Built in a traditional style close to that of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, this "Little Potala Palace" is situated at the foot of the Foping Hill. Climb 146 steps from the entrance and you'll find yourself in the magnificent main hall, decorated with murals that depict Buddhist tales and legends. Not only is the temple beautifully built, but also houses a collection of treasures from statues of Buddha to golden lamps, liturgical Tibetan readings and more.
