What To Expect

Head to the quaint town of Jiufen, just an hour’s trip east of Taipei, and indulge in authentic tea with classic Taiwanese pastries, while soaking in a relaxing view of the pristine Keelung Mountain. The Amei Teahouse is the perfect place to hang out while in Jiufen! The century-old tea house draws in hundreds of visitors because it is said to be the inspiration behind the lantern-lit bathhouse in the very popular Japanese animated film “Spirited Away.” As you proceed up the wooden stairs to the entrance, you will spot several quirky-looking masks hung on the walls and figurines of the film’s characters placed on a shelf. The top floor of Amei Teahouse has an indoor area as well as an outdoor area where you can request for a window seat to get unparalleled views. Most of the staff can converse in Chinese and in basic English, Japanese, and Korean so you can be assisted properly. You will be served a standard tea set that includes a pot of oolong tea plus yummy local snacks like pineapple pastry, mung bean cake, tea plum, milk plum, brown sugar mochi, and sesame flakes. You even get a discount if you want to buy more snacks or bring home "Spirited Away" charms!

The staff is so friendly they were all smiling. They were also very attentive to all customers considering the place is sooo packed. It was a really cold evening when we visited and the hot tea warmed us up. The climb up was so worth it. The snacks are also very yummy. We love this place and would recommend this to all.

The experience is great! Having tea and downtime between all the walking at Jiufen in without-a-doubt the most iconic spot in the area is so fun! The snacks are plentiful and pretty good. The tea demonstration was really cool and fun! It was awesome how they show you how to make the tea and then do it yourself :-) what a wonderful little addition to the Jiufen itinerary!

A great way to experience local tea practice at the ancient town, Jiufen. It was raining but we got inside quickly with advanced reservation.

good experience to try once, snacks were yummy, tea was alright (i personally prefer stronger tasting tea) but the demonstration was superb and staff were friendly :)

My assigned table supposed to have good view but too bad that time was too hazy due to heavy rain. The service is fast but the food portion is really small. No sharing allowed, have to pay for each headcount.

great experience although it was a rainy day and we can’t see any scenery from the tea house. Service provided was excellence

Super long queue but with Klook we just need to go at our reserved time and was served immediately!
  • Helen 31 Dec 2018
Experience was good, staff showed us how to prepare tea. The 10% discount, however, did not work for the tea plum snack.
