A great activity to pair with the shuttle bus tour to Jiufen. One of the favourite things we did in Taiwan.

What To Expect

Head to the quaint town of Jiufen, just an hour’s trip east of Taipei, and indulge in authentic tea with classic Taiwanese pastries, while soaking in a relaxing view of the pristine Keelung Mountain. The Amei Teahouse is the perfect place to hang out while in Jiufen! The century-old tea house draws in hundreds of visitors because it is said to be the inspiration behind the lantern-lit bathhouse in the very popular Japanese animated film “Spirited Away.” As you proceed up the wooden stairs to the entrance, you will spot several quirky-looking masks hung on the walls and figurines of the film’s characters placed on a shelf. The top floor of Amei Teahouse has an indoor area as well as an outdoor area where you can request for a window seat to get unparalleled views. Most of the staff can converse in Chinese and in basic English, Japanese, and Korean so you can be assisted properly. You will be served a standard tea set that includes a pot of oolong tea plus yummy local snacks like pineapple pastry, mung bean cake, tea plum, milk plum, brown sugar mochi, and sesame flakes. You even get a discount if you want to buy more snacks or bring home "Spirited Away" charms!

The staff were so kind and diligent and the tea house was gorgeous. It was a special treat and the course that is arranged through Klook is delightful with plenty of sweets and tea to spend a nice leisurely afternoon.

Such a experience having chinese tea in traditional way. Overprice I should just order 1 pax to serve both of us.

Easy to redeem, convenient and it is a must experience when you go to Jiufen. You should never miss it. A Mei should allow people to book 4 max instead of 2 per time period to allow family booking more easily.

The tea house is located a mid hill and I have to walk a lot of steps to reach the place. We didn’t managed to enjoy the snacks there because there is one old folk with knee problem. However, the street and tea house is very pretty decorated. The staff is friendly and when he understand my situation (that my mum unable to walk up the steps), they allowed me to take away the snacks and gave us some tea leaves to enjoy it at home. We shared the take away snacks and it tasted great! Will definitely return again (with my friends and not old folks) to enjoy the beautiful sunset and snacks...

Pretty interesting, the servers could communicate in English, Japanese and Chinese from what I observed! Many Japanese tourists there too. Don’t hesitate to take the outdoor seats as they have misting coolers to help with the heat and humidity. I wish we could have sat right at the edge to overlook the town but our seats were fine too. The server showed us how to brew our tea really expertly, flipping cups and pouring water in a flash while we were struggling with the heavy kettle 😂 He gave us instructions on how long we could brew the tea for and left us to enjoy our tea after that. I loved the green cakes and everything else was good too 😋😋😋 Reach earlier to find the place or you could end up on the other side of jiufen market and there is poor reception in the mountains, so, just in case 😅

Fun experience and a nice break from walking all day. I love Ali Shan tea! Great to go around sunset to catch the beautiful glow in the sky.

Delicious tea cakes. Don't miss it. We were sat immediately and they were able to accomodate our request to sit by the window. Servers were polite and helpful. Don't just take a photo of it, partake of some tea. You won't regret it.
