It was raining when we visited Jiufen, so the hot oolong tea soothed our wet and weary bodies. The pastries that went with the tea were delicious (I liked the green one with filling!). And because we booked via Klook, we had no problems getting a table. One big group actually got turned away the time we arrived. Plus, they gave us seats outside, so we got to see the pretty lights of Jiufen. Wish we got to see the sunset though.

What To Expect

Head to the quaint town of Jiufen, just an hour’s trip east of Taipei, and indulge in authentic tea with classic Taiwanese pastries, while soaking in a relaxing view of the pristine Keelung Mountain. The Amei Teahouse is the perfect place to hang out while in Jiufen! The century-old tea house draws in hundreds of visitors because it is said to be the inspiration behind the lantern-lit bathhouse in the very popular Japanese animated film “Spirited Away.” As you proceed up the wooden stairs to the entrance, you will spot several quirky-looking masks hung on the walls and figurines of the film’s characters placed on a shelf. The top floor of Amei Teahouse has an indoor area as well as an outdoor area where you can request for a window seat to get unparalleled views. Most of the staff can converse in Chinese and in basic English, Japanese, and Korean so you can be assisted properly. You will be served a standard tea set that includes a pot of oolong tea plus yummy local snacks like pineapple pastry, mung bean cake, tea plum, milk plum, brown sugar mochi, and sesame flakes. You even get a discount if you want to buy more snacks or bring home "Spirited Away" charms!

My parents, especially Dad, are avid tea drinkers. I purchased two packages, thinking that my husband and I would, at the very least, be allowed to sit down with them, to enjoy the view and watch the tea preparation. However we were informed that since I had only purchased 2 packages, we weren't allowed to even sit with them unless we purchased additional packages. Honestly it was quite absurd, but I guess maybe I had missed some fine print somewhere. Just a heads up :) On a more positive note, the presentation, food, and views were good.

It was a good experience. Would've been better if it didn't rain that day.

It was a really peaceful place to just sit down, relax, sip tea, and admire the view. Worth the trip!

While getting to the teahouse at around 5pm..there were lots of people heading the same direction. Wondering why, as soon as we areived we realised they were snapping photo of A Mei Teahouse! Tea experience of awesome and very scenic, overlooking the mountain and the sea.

Tea time has never been so enchanting! Really great view and service.

Had a wonderful experience with their generous serving of oolong tea! Too bad it was too foggy that day, we couldn't see the view. Way to the teahouse is like a maze and crowded, with GPS hardly updating so give yourself ample time to get there. We arrived later than our chosen time slot but luckily they still let us in.

It was a nice experience, the staff would demonstrate how to prepare the tea leaves. there were two variety of teas that were served with the snacks like pineapple cake, mochi etc. the view from the teahouse is very beautiful..and since it was an old village. it seemed that you were back to ancient times.. and you can bring home the tea leaves that you did not consume as well as the snacks.. a must try when you are in jiufen..

The teahouse is a little bit hard to locate. Stay outdoor for the view.

Very busy spot, too crowded... but it is great to book the table paid as we did not need to wait at all
