What to expect
Spend the morning or afternoon paddling in the cool shade of the Ao Thalane canyons in the north of Krabi. Explore the diverse ecosystem on a sit-on top kayak manoeuvring through caves and channels surrounded by towering cast formations whilst observing the diverse wildlife, including crab-eating macaques, gibbons, the occasional cicada, otters and your ever present monkey trying to hitch a ride.

Good to know
Get picked up by our friendly driver and take a 20-minute scenic drive through rural villages to the incredible, karst-dotted Thalane Bay, located in the north of Krabi. After arriving at the kayaking center with a private pier, enjoy a coffee while your guide prepares the equipment and studies the tide tables. Get a short briefing on how to use the paddles before boarding the open kayaks.
Start paddling a short distance through open water from the launching point to the mangrove forest of Ao Thalane. The guide will lead you through shallow channels, over submerged roots, and even right next to almost vertical limestone cliffs towering above you. Spot cliffs with supposedly thousand-year-old historical paintings done by sea gypsies who once lived in this area.
At times, stop paddling and just listen. silence, except for the occasional sound of cicadas and the rustling of leaves overhead. The aerial roots of the mangroves at Ao Thalane are home to many crustaceans, which attract many gamefish like snapper in these waters.
Some parts of the journey require you to negotiate sharp turns in tight spaces as you wave your way through the forest. Therefore, this tour is specially designed to be semi-private, with a maximum of 10 people to one guide. Enjoy the undeveloped environment without unpleasant crowds.
Enter a large cave with stalagmites and stalactites that was named the Crocodile Cave, probably because some of the hanging stalactites may look like a crocodile to those with a bit of imagination. Several bird and monkey species, particularly the crab-eating macaque monkey, can be seen, as can large water monitors (a lizard that resembles the Komodo Dragon).
Leave the cave and continue through a lagoon on your way out of the forest. Surrounded by the limestone karsts, this spectacular seascape at this part of Ao Thalane is the filming location for many movies. The total paddling time is around 2 hours, not including breaks.
A set menu lunch is available if you have booked the lunch option, for those who prefer to strengthen themselves for the kayaking session.
Reviews
Great experience. we booked the afternoon without lunch package. The tiles were low on the day we booked. It was a small group with a guide. Due to low tides we got stuck sometimes in shallow waters. But otherwise, the whole experience was great with amazing views. We saw hermit crabs and star fish on a small island that was walkable due to low tides. The mangroves were amazing. Would definitely recommend this tour.
This is an itinerary that must be taken when in Krabi. The scenery is unparalleled. Although we only participated in a half-day itinerary, it should actually be a full-day itinerary, or even a two- to three-day itinerary. Don’t rush when rowing, paddle slowly to enjoy more beautiful scenery, absolutely anyone can do it easily. The only drawback is that when we were picked up and dropped off at the hotel, we had to wait for other guests to have lunch before they were sent back to the pier. Because lunch was not included in our booking, they sent us back to the hotel again. This was really inappropriate. It was a waste of our time and left us hungry. Watching others eat, my experience is completely compromised by this. This arrangement of merchants really needs to be improved.
Lovely kayaking trip. well managed. quite informative guide. fruits provided at the end of the tour. definitely recommended.
It was a very nice experience. I recommend it to everyone who loves nature and adventures. The trip leader and his assistant are professional and comfortable at all times. Thank you.
The overall physical experience is good. I would recommend coming to Krabi to experience the canoeing trip. However, I am not sure what the difference is between NT$950 on klook and NT$600-700 on other platforms.
It was a perfect experience. We experienced the ecology of the mangroves very completely during the 6km journey and saw many wild animals along the way, which made us very excited.
Very friendly guide. Takes good care of us. Tells us stories and jokes, and even took photos and videos to send to us after the activity.
You can walk through the nature at a leisurely pace and fully enjoy the tranquility and nature. You can see monkeys here and there, and at Monkey Beach, as the name suggests, monkeys welcomed you. It is recommended to check the tide table and go when the tide is as high as possible. It is quite a distance, so it may be quite difficult for a mother and small child to go together.
I liked that the guide was very passionate, witty, and kind!! He took a lot of pictures and our group was very satisfied haha. Kayaking without a guide can hurt your arms a bit, but it was just right as it was over just when you thought it was going to be hard!! Highly recommended👍 And the baby cats at the dock are so cute… . After kayaking, be sure to eat coconut taro ice cream from the ice cream truck that comes to the dock. It was a satisfying tour with water and fruit provided and a variety of contents!
The guide led the tour in such a fun and engaging way, sharing the history and stories behind each place in great detail! And they took so~ many photos and sent them all via WhatsApp ☺️ Thanks to guide Bangchai, the kayaking experience was so much fun 👍
