What to expect
Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake in Shikotsu-Toya National Park that was formed around 44,000 years ago. While it’s known for being “Japan’s northernmost unfrozen lake,” and when the surface does freeze, it provides a rare and unique opportunity to walk across the glistening ice. Ice walking is one of the few water activities available in Hokkaido throughout the winter. This experience will take you to some of Lake Shikotsu's frozen areas, where you can try climbing and breaking the icy surface, jumping in the water, or even burying yourself in the snow. We offer drysuits that fit over your clothes, so you may float, splash, and jump around while staying comfortable and dry

Because the ice sheets are fragile, feel free to break them and jump inside!

To keep you dry and warm, drysuits, hoods, and gloves are provided
